Online & City College at Loyola University New Orleans is looking for an Online Success Coach to help retention efforts for online undergraduate and graduate students at Loyola, from enrollment to graduation. In particular, this position will guide our online students through educational issues such as navigating the online environment, identifying support resources, and cultivating good study habits.
In addition, this person may organize online student success workshops and other retention-focused initiatives. This position is part of a dynamic, student-centric team that supports our online students. The Online Success Coach will interact with the Online Student Success staff and the online team, and reports to the Assistant Director of Online Student Success/Coaching. Work schedule may be tailored to meet the needs of online students.
Examples of Duties
- Build trusting relationships with a diverse online student population to facilitate retention and persistence to program completion. Onboard new students, support students on a leave of absence, and assist students identified as at risk by delivering personalized, constructive, engaging, motivating, and informative coaching sessions.
- Contact all assigned students. Conduct welcome and readiness calls to ensure new students are able to access the systems and resolve outstanding concerns.
- Conduct outreach to students identified as at risk for attrition.
- Monitor academic, career and personal goals, interests, and needs of students and provide individual guidance and referrals to resources as appropriate.
- Maintain appropriate documentation, including student performance and outcomes. Be able to prioritize and execute appropriate coaching actions to remove roadblocks to success.
- Attend training sessions, collaborate with coaching partners as needed, and earn certification as a Success Coach within the first year of employment.
- Help manage data to identify students at risk and provide assessments for retention efforts. Compile and prepare reports based on retention targets.
- Develop workshops and newsletters to compliment coaching efforts. Schedule, advertise, and track Online Student Success Workshops and newsletters.
- Build rapport with online students, colleagues, and representatives from campus partners. Make referrals when necessary.
- Achieve mastery of the following technology platforms: Canvas (our Learning Management System), Slate, LORA Self-Service, and Pharos/Loynotes (our early alert software).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in committee assignments as appropriate.
- Facilitate campus events and programming to promote online student success.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree required. Master's degree preferred.
- Formal experience in advising, coaching, mentoring, counseling, or social work strongly preferred. Background in adult education is a plus.
- Experience working with online students in a higher education setting strongly preferred.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Eagerness to learn and implement coaching techniques to enable students to direct their academic and personal goals.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and technical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as both a team member and as a leader.
- Ability to develop and execute programs and events.
- Ability to work with a diverse range of faculty, administrators, students, alumni and staff.
- Be committed and sensitive to the needs of a diverse student body.
- Availability on some evenings and weekends as required.
