What are the responsibilities and job description for the CAD Manager position at LPD Engineering?
The CAD Manager is responsible for managing the CAD team, managing the CAD software and keeping LPD current with the latest CAD technology, managing the drafting standards and details, drafting civil design construction documents, and revising existing documents. The CAD Manager will provide engineering assistance as directed by the principal and/or senior engineers. The duties and responsibilities listed below are meant to be partial; other duties may be added as required.
Summary of Responsibilities:
CAD Standards and Technology:
- Maintain and update company-wide CAD standards and best practices.
- Oversee the implementation of new CAD technologies and software upgrades.
- Manage software licenses and provide IT support for the CAD team.
- Coordinate, manage, update and maintain CAD Detail and with Library and coordination from PM
- Proactively integrate new technologies to increase productivity, plan clarity and efficient design process.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Manage a high-performing CAD team and help recruit and hire.
- Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for team members.
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment.
- Evaluate team performance and provide constructive feedback.
Project Support:
- Collaborate with engineers to develop and maintain accurate and efficient CAD workflows.
- Review and approve CAD drawings to ensure compliance with LPD, industry and jurisdictional standards and project requirements.
- Provide technical support to the engineering team.
- Track and manage project deadlines and CAD resource allocation.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Implement innovative solutions to enhance the team's productivity.
Requirements / Qualifications:
· 10 years of related experience in drafting/design in AutoCAD.
· Highly proficient in Civil 3D and prior experience with 3D modeling is required.
· Understanding of AutoCAD's usage of external reference files, layouts, and detailed layering systems.
· Experience creating surfaces, roadway profiles, site cross-sections and utility networks as well as understanding of design concepts behind the use of these tools.
· Experience creating, implementing, and managing CAD standards.
· Professional, self-aware and serves as an example to all staff as a leader.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills.
· Exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Possess a keen eye for detail and accuracy
· A passion for continuous learning and development
· Involved in industry forums and groups to stay on the forefront of new technologies.
· An understanding of civil engineering plan set construction and structure and excellent plan presentation skills.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand at a desk for long periods of time. The employee must constantly reach with hands and fingers. Employees must be able to work in close contact with small and large groups. Frequent hearing and talking are required. Extensive keyboard typing is required.
