Position Summary
The Mechanical Engineer III will support the Business Manufacturing department. The engineer is responsible for developing and implementing new product assembly machines, improving existing product assembly machines and support documentation for manufacturing processes, machine drawing and BOM documentation. The key responsibility of this position is to design, develop and improve client's assembly machines to ensure their efficiency and reliability. The engineer will be heavily involved with machine CAD drawings. The Engineer will be expected to interface mainly with internal customers and external suppliers on the design and configuration of high-volume assembly machines for disposable medical devices. The position plays a key role in user requirement specifications for new machines and problem solving for existing and new machines. The position requires the ability to interact with multiple functional groups such as Quality, Manufacturing, Machine Shop, and Building Services.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Development of machinery from concept to production
Develop machine requirements according to business needs in compliance with standards and regulations applicable.
Adhere to established design control processes and good engineering practices
Design machine assemblies or various assembly lines using SolidWorks or legacy Autocad
Evaluate product assembly machines, or assembly processes for efficiency and reliability to ensure long-term success of new / improved product lines
Provides technical support for production equipment on the shop floor
Provides the technical foundation for the development of risk documentation
Develop test procedures to ensure specifications are met
Writes, reviews, and approves protocols, reports and data
Conducts testing outlined in protocols and test methods
Executes engineering and validation studies on assembly machines
Conducts failure investigations
Work on special projects as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
Detail oriented and ability to organize large amounts of work and data.
Strong interpersonal skills required in the areas of verbal and written communications, customer focus, time management, professionalism, coaching, influencing, and team building.
Knowledge of machine design practices
Knowledge of geometric tolerances, design for assembly and design for manufacturing
Experience with design of experiments (DOE) and basic statistical methods
Excellent project leadership skills and ability to expedite project completion
SolidWorks competency required
Understanding of engineering mechanics and physics
Familiarity with machine shop practices
Familiarity of drafting standards
Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience
Must be at least 18 years of age
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Master's Degree preferred.
7 years of experience in Medical Device Production Machines or related field
Work Environment
This job can be range from working in a professional office environment to hands on trouble shooting production machines.
Must be able to occasionally move objects up to 25 lbs.
