Job Summary
Currently looking for a Reading Specialist at ACCEPT Collaborative to provide direct reading instruction and coaching support within special education programs. This position serves k-5 students with reading needs across various ACCEPT programs, including those with language-based learning disabilities and other special needs.
The ideal candidate will be collaborative, detail-oriented, and passionate about literacy and inclusive education. They will join a multidisciplinary team to support students through targeted reading intervention, assessment, and staff coaching. The role involves designing and implementing evidence-based literacy instruction, guiding staff in reading strategies, and contributing to inclusive practices within the school environment. This position offers the opportunity to support both student growth and teacher development in a mission-driven setting.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver high-quality, evidence-based reading instruction
- Provide direct reading intervention to students with identified reading needs
- Administer and interpret standardized and informal reading assessments
- Monitor progress and contribute to the development of IEP goals
- Provide coaching and professional development to staff on reading programs
- Support teachers in student grouping and differentiated instruction
- Attend IEP meetings as needed and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams
- Facilitate inclusive literacy practices across the school community
- Utilize instructional and assistive technology as needed
- Communicate regularly with families and colleagues
- Maintain accurate documentation and meet all deadlines
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Education, Reading, Special Education, or related field
- Valid DESE Reading Specialist License
- Certification in a sequential phonics-based reading program (e.g., Wilson, Orton-Gillingham)
- Minimum 2 years of experience teaching children with language-based learning disabilities or students with special needs
- Experience with reading assessments, curriculum development, and instructional coaching
- Strong written and oral communication skills, organization, and attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task, collaborate, and maintain a positive, growth-oriented mindset
- Physical ability to meet school-based demands (e.g., lifting, behavioral support, etc.)
