Job Summary :
The Yard driver is responsible for organizing tractor trailers in order to make sure they are ready for unloading, and transport. A yard driver uses yard mules to move trailers around the truck yard, in and out of loading docks. Yard drivers are usually responsible for cleaning and basic maintenance of trailers and refrigerated trailers, conducting pre- and post-trip inspections, loading and unloading cargo, and conducting other typical job duties
Essential Job Responsibilities :
The primary function of this position is to maneuver tractor trailers for the purpose of loading and unloading products while providing safety and security for the division yard and dock area. It is further required that above function be completed in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This will be done by :
- Function and interact daily with department supervisor
- Maintain and maneuver equipment on yard prior to dispatch.
- Ensure the safe movement of equipment around yard and warehouse.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours (Saturdays when needed).
- Communicate using 2-way radio with loader.
- Maintain equipment while on site.
- Drop and hook tractor to trailer.
- Inspects truck for defects, before and after trips and submits reports indicating truck condition.
- Coordinate equipment for maintenance and repair (must be able to perform light maintenance).
- Must be able to perform a DOT Pre-Trip inspection on Trailers
- All other duties as assigned.
