The primary responsibility of the Naturopath is to guide patients and facilitate the improvement of their health and quality of life through diagnosing, treating, and helping to prevent diseases using practices based on an individual's natural healing capacity.
Essential Job Responsibilities of the Naturopath:
- Practices naturopathic medicine within the scope of the primary care program.
- Screens, examines, and evaluates patients, including history, systems review, and applications of appropriate tests and measures.
- Analyzes medical history, reports, findings of tests, and examination to determine conditions/diagnosis and provide appropriate treatments.
- Advises patients about therapeutic exercise and nutritional medicine regimens.
- Interprets examination findings to establish a diagnosis, identify impairments, determine potential improvement and any precautions or contraindications, and designs a plan of care.
- Develops appropriate treatment goals and methods in collaboration with patients and implements accordingly.
- Uses physiological, psychological, or mechanical methods of treatment, and may use natural medicines, prescription medications, foods, herbs, or other natural remedies in treating patients.
- Administers, dispenses, or prescribes natural medicines such as food or botanical extracts, herbs, dietary supplements, vitamins, nutraceuticals, and amino acids.
- Promotes health by advising patients about diet, behaviors, and methods for prevention of disease based on evidence-based recommendations.
- Performs procedures within scope of primary care and complementary medicine programs and the provider’s surgical competency/privileges.
- Refers patients to medical specialist for consultation especially to other traditional health care providers when necessary.
- Educates patients about complementary health care and management
- Familiar with using electronic health record.
- Monitors, and where applicable, oversees relevant provider and care staff to ensure delivery of care.
- Maintains and nurtures a positive attitude toward patients and treatment programs.
- Maintains HIPAA and protects LSM by keeping patient records confidential.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by participating in continuing education programs such as workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Complies with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and professional requirements.
- Maintains appropriate documentation, including S.O.A.P. notes, detailing the patient’s response to treatment.
Additional Job Responsibilities of the Naturopath:
- Oversees activities of support personnel
- Conduct special projects as assigned
Required Skills and Competencies of the Naturopath:
- Graduation from an accredited naturopathic medical program and successful passing of NCLEX Board Exams is required
- Must pursue or currently hold ND license in the State of Wisconsin
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, portraying a high degree of professionalism
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and accept and implement change
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve and make decisions
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, prioritize work and manage time to meet deadlines under general supervision
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to maintain confidential information
Preferred Skills and Competencies of the Naturopath:
- Board Certified or Board Eligible
- CPR and AED certifications preferred but not required
Physical Requirements of the Naturopath:
- Frequent standing and sitting
- Frequent use of hearing and speech in communication with patients and staff
- Frequent use of vision, both near and far, to judge distances, spatial relationships, and identifying and distinguishing colors
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent walking, reaching, gripping, and use of keyboards for data entry
- Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, sitting, squatting, twisting, and repetitive movements of foot/leg and hand/arm
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.
- Occasional lifting and/or moving of patients
- Occasional driving
