The LSU Foundation has a unique opportunity for an LSU graduate student to join our team as a philanthropic intern. If you are interested in pursuing a career in philanthropy, this could be a great opportunity for you! This paid internship will further your education and give you professional experience in higher education fundraising. By the time it concludes, you will have a solid foundation in development and will be prepared to succeed in a variety of nonprofit-oriented careers.
The LSU Foundation is the primary fundraising entity for academics at LSU. The organization’s sole purpose is to provide philanthropic support to LSU, which is accomplished through the work of a campus-wide team of frontline development officers and a support team of communications and marketing, donor relations, financial, and talent management personnel. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Interns will work with an assigned supervisor and team to gain hands-on experience related to their career goals. By introducing students to the important work accomplished at the LSU Foundation, the desired goals are to:
- Promote life-long engagement with the University by fostering an appreciation of the impact of engagement and philanthropy
- Encourage exploration of career roles in nonprofit and foundation settings by exposing students to the array of work available and the inner workings of a successful university affiliated foundation.
SCHEDULE & COMPONENTS
The internship program will run for eight (8) weeks, from Monday, June 2 through Friday, July 25. Interns will earn $15/hour and are expected to work twenty (20) hours per week, according to a schedule determined by the intern and supervisor. Outside commitments such as summer courses will be accommodated.
In addition to unit-based project work, interns will benefit from several additional program components including:
- Extensive onboarding/orientation
- Frequent check-ins with supervisor
- Various engagement activities with staff
- Educational programming related to leadership, fundraising, nonprofit work, professionalism, and professional development
- Opportunities to accompany LSU Foundation fundraisers as they attend meetings with donors
- Capstone presentation at which interns share key accomplishments with executive team
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Current LSU graduate student with a strong interest in fundraising. Preference will be given to current students enrolled in the Master of Public Administration and Master of Business Administration programs in the E.J. Ourso College of Business.
