What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Librarian position at LSU HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER-SHREVEPORT?
This is a faculty position within the library. The Electronic Resources and Metadata Librarian helps manage electronic resources and serves as the primary metadata librarian for electronic and print materials.
This person must have good time management, communication, and organizational skills, as well as a strong ability to think critically. A high level of technical computer skills is also required. This person must be able to work independently and to establish priorities for the ongoing work of this position. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Electronic Resources and Collection Management.
Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position. Incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur that customer satisfaction is met at all times.
Essential Position Functions & Duties
65% Electronic Resources Management
- Works with licensed vendors to establish and maintain access to electronic resources for LSUHSC-S students, residents, fellows, faculty and staff. Update online journals and e-books in proprietary electronic resource management systems and other resources managed by the library. Keep abreast of changes to access, titles, and provider.
- Troubleshoots access issues for electronic resources, collaborating with library administrators, faculty, and staff. Builds good relationships with library administrators, faculty, and staff.
15% Metadata Functions
- Develops original and copy metadata for all types of materials, using national standards.
- Maintains bibliographic records for print and electronic monographs and journals in the integrated library system.
- Assists with the cataloging in digitization projects.
- Assists with organization, arrangement, description and access to LSUHSC-S archival collections.
10% Faculty Duties
- Works as liaison for faculty wanting to know about Library open access agreements.
- Participates in state, regional and national professional organizations in order to maintain knowledge of library information trends and advancements.
- On an occasional basis, writes newsletter or journal articles
5% Asset Management
- Prepares acquisition report on a monthly basis
- Prepares library materials usage reports on a yearly basis
- Runs reports when required by legal to inventory the print collection. Makes updates as needed based on inventory outcomes.
Non-Essential Position Functions & Duties
5% Marginal Functions (5%)
Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Applicant must meet one of the following qualifications:
- Master's level degree from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited school of Library and/or Information Science with at least two (2) years of post-graduate experience in a library setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expert in Microsoft Office programs.
- Knowledge of integrated library system and electronic services resource management.
