Introduction
We are looking for an organized and caring Medical Assistant to join our team! As a Medical Assistant, you will provide an important link between the patient, the healthcare team, and the clinical environment. You will be responsible for managing and organizing patient records, preparing exam rooms, and assisting with exams and treatments. You should have excellent organizational and communication skills and be able to maintain a respectful and compassionate attitude. Job Responsibilities
- Prepares charts and other medical records for clinic in accordance to LSUHN Policy and Procedures.
- Escorts’ patients to examinations/procedure room, obtain vital signs, weights, heights, and head circumference when required
- Obtain patient histories and reasons for seeking care, performs physical assessments.
- Prepares and assist with exams, invasive procedures, and minor surgeries that are carried out by practitioners.
- Clean and sterilize supplies, exam rooms, and equipment as indicated.
- Always administers injections using aseptic technique and documenting the procedure on the appropriate forms and using the appropriate ICD-9 code.
- Collect lab specimens and perform dipstick urine tests and UCG tests as applicable.
- Call in prescriptions and/or refills for the patient as ordered by the physician.
- Removing staples or sutures.
- Notifies physician of all abnormal lab and diagnostic test results ASAP.
- Capable of performing EKG’s when applicable.
- Observe patient for signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to treatment, general behavior, or general physical conditions, and the implementation of appropriate reporting or referral or the initiation of emergency procedures.
- Schedule patients for In/Out Patient Procedures-including surgery.
- Assist scheduling department with scheduling patient appointment with the appropriate physician.
- Adheres to LSUHN telephone policies.
- Always provide continuity of care.
- Participates fully in patient education to improve clinical outcomes.
- Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician.

Requirements:EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED
- Diploma from Accredited Certified Medical Program
- 1-2 Years Hospital or Clinic Experience Preferred
