QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understand how to process insurance benefits for medical procedures, diagnostic testing, and surgical procedures.
- Understand how to interpret and find diagnostic testing, procedure, surgical CPT codes and diagnosis codes needed for medical procedures, diagnostic tests, and surgical procedures ordered by the medical provider.
- Understand how to access patient charts in EPIC and other medical records to send to insurance companies for prior authorization approval for clinic diagnostics, procedures, and surgical procedures in accordance to LSUHN policies and procedures.
- Adheres to LSUHN telephone policies.
- Perform diagnostic, procedure, and surgical scheduling as required by physician orders, to include registering the patient and procedures with the appropriate hospital scheduling department or outside facility.
- Update physician schedules and Electronic Health Record with diagnostic procedure details concerning what is needed for appointment requirements and details.
- Work with clinical staff that all required consents are completed and coordinate cases requiring multiple physicians.
- Coordinate with clinical staff pre-admission testing and surgical clearance (pre-op) appointments.
- Obtain authorization for hospital surgical procedures from patient’s insurance carrier.
- Ensure that any specialized equipment or staff is coordinated with medical provider’s assigned clinical staff, if necessary for diagnostic testing, procedures, or surgeries.
- Update physician surgery schedules and Electronic Health Record with surgery details.
- Aid clinical staff in patient education to improve clinical outcomes as needed.
- Performs all duties assigned by a Supervisor

Requirements:EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 1-year previous work experience in a physician office or medical setting with insurance billing and authorization processing required.
- 1 or more years of previous patient diagnostic and/or surgery scheduling experience preferred.
- EPIC experience is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules and regulations.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel Spreadsheets, Windows, databases, graphs and the ability to write reports and correspondence by using proficient grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Able to speak effectively before patients or employees of the organization.
- Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with facility personnel, patients, and the public.
- Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and decision-making in meeting department and institutional objectives.
- Ability to analyze data, perform multiple tasks and work independently and efficiently in a matrix reporting role.
- Superior customer service and communication skills are key to this role.
