What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Safety Engineer position at LTA Research?
LTA Research and Exploration is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Safety Engineer to join our growing EHS team. This critical role will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for our employees, contractors, and visitors. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in aerospace safety, experience in manufacturing and R&D environments, and a deep understanding of relevant safety regulations.
\n- Spot audits on daily operations verifying compliance with established safety protocols including PPE dawning
- Conduct incident reporting and complete OSHA 300 logs.
- Review proposed operations including lifts, confined spaces, pilot programs and process revisions as part of a job safety assessment
- Establish controls and mitigations for new processes and risk analysis for ground hangar operations as well as for experimental flight vehicles. Including development of Emergency Action Plans and flight emergency responses.
- Evaluate operational systems and facility infrastructure to identify and improve operational efficiencies.
- Conduct safety-driven orientations and training to ensure compliance with regulatory exposure and injury prevention programs, including PPE usage.
- Perform toolbox talks with staff on upcoming processes, new SOPs and general awareness
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, building codes, and EHS standards (federal and state).
- Coordinate vendors related to industrial hygiene, waste disposal programs and specialized compliance training
- Audit and update respiratory, hazardous material storage and confined space programs as necessary.
- Act as onsite contact for regulatory agencies
- Occasional travel and coordination with offsite employees
- Prepare reports and compliance documentation, with executive-level presentation skills as a plus.
- Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to integrate safety into the design and planning of new projects and processes.
- Review and update safety procedures and policies as needed.
- Serve as a point of contact for safety-related inquiries and concerns.
- Stay up to date with current safety regulations and best practices.
- Manage chemical inventories and ensure proper handling and storage.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of emergency response plans.
- Oversee safety aspects of the building process and construction projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience as a facilities/EHS engineer or in a similar safety-related role.
- Experience working in manufacturing and R&D environments, including experience with chemicals, safety data sheets. Safety Policy, Risk Management, Safety Assurance and Promotion.
- Knowledge of the building process and construction principles.
- FAA Orders 8000.369C, 8040.C, 8040.4A
- Strong understanding of relevant OSHA 1910 and 1926 regulations, as well as other applicable safety and environmental regulations and building codes.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and training skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience with FAA emergency response programs.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience with aerospace-related safety practices.
- Flight test safety review and test hazard analysis
