What are the responsibilities and job description for the Test Technician position at LTA Research?
LTA Research and Exploration has an opening for a motivated Test Technician to join our team and build ‘lighter than air’ flight vehicles. You will work within a dynamic engineering and design team to conceptualize, rapidly prototype, test and implement innovative solutions for the design, fabrication and assembly of large experimental flight vehicles. We believe in fast-cycle development and approach to flight hardware development with the motto "build a little, test a little, learn a lot".
\n- Supporting engineering in all testing tasks as required.
- Conducting component, assembly, and systems testing on rigid structures, soft structures, and electrical equipment. Primarily responsible for conducting mechanical property testing using Universal Testing Machines (UTMs).
- Performing calibration tests under real-world conditions.
- Examining structures, materials, samples, hardware, and instrumentation for flaws or defects.
- Monitoring and manipulating instrumentation and processes used to conduct tests.
- Identifying the root cause of mechanical and electrical issues and performing repairs as required.
- Assembling, calibrating, improving, and performing maintenance on machines and software used to perform tests.
- Compiling data and providing detailed feedback about test progress and issues to engineers.
- Creating and maintaining an inventory of test equipment, hardware, and test samples.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Working in a safe manner, following company, local, state, and federal policies and regulations.
- Training other employees in the testing protocol as required.
- Undertaking other projects or duties as assigned.
- 1 years of hands-on experience with hand tools, power tools, sensors, measuring instruments, and test equipment
- High attention to detail
- Familiarity with sharing technical data in written and verbal communication
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and flexible in adapting to new situations
- Proficient with a computer and microsoft office or Google Suite (Google Sheets)
- Able to lift 35 lbs.
- 1 year of experience in operating mechanical test equipment, including hydraulic and electromechanical UTM (Universal Testing Machine)
- Proficient in setting up extensometers, load cells, humidity chambers, thermal chambers, thermocouples, and transducers
- A.S. in Engineering Technology or a related field
- Familiarity with SOLIDWORKS.
