Qualifications
- State approved medication administration certification (whererequired).
- Complete familiarity with duties of a certified nursingassistant.
- Highly developed observation skills aredesirable.
- Functional literacy in English isrequired.
- Tolerance, patience, empathy and concern aredesirable.
- Vision must be adequate to read medication labels,etc.
Essential Functions
- Administers medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with any state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.
- Must demonstrate knowledi:1e of five rii:1hts of medication administration.
- May take and record vital signs of residents as assigned or as may be required by certain medications.
- Records the administration of medications and/or treatments appropriately.
- Observes for and reports any reactions and/or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse on the appropriate shift.
- Administers PRN medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.
- Must be able to push/pull medication cart for extended periods.
- Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
- Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods of time.
- Documents reason for and response to PRN medications in a timely manner.
- May dispense narcotics and must account for them under the supervision of the licensed (or charge) nurse per facility policy.
- Properly secures medication carts/medication rooms per state/federal regulations and facility policy.
- Attends facility education in-services.
Other Functions
- May make observation rounds under the supervision of the licensed nurse (or charge nurse) on the shift
- May supervise nursing assistants/orderlies as assigned by the charge nurse
- Follows facility safety policies and guidelines in effect (facility, state, federal)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
