Summary
Responsible for creating, implementing and maintaining GIS applications for the Elections Office.
Essential Duties
- Create, edit and manage graphical and tabular data on GIS systems.
- Communicate, coordinate and interface with agencies, government entities, districts, departments and political parties.
- Assist in the Elections Office website development, design and content management.
- Provide geospatial-related services to other County departments and political subdivisions.
- Create and maintain street data on voter registration database systems and resolve discrepancies in street data. Analyze reports from SOS on street issues.
- Assist in the development of voting, precinct, district, boundary, road and other informational maps and statistical printouts.
- Produce custom maps for the public, local entities and elected officials.
- Perform field verification and aerial interpretation to verify data. Develop and maintain field notes (metes and bounds) for each county election precinct and all jurisdictions within; Analyze precinct boundary descriptions and responsible for final submission of documents to State and Federal agencies.
- Interpret and present statistical data and maps for redistricting.
- Represent office at meetings and events.
- Assist in voter registration and election duties.
- Assist training staff on boundaries and jurisdictional maps.
- Assist in ADA compliance inspections on polling place locations and maintain records.
- Create, implement and evaluate equipment delivery, set-up and pick-up route maps.
- Report for work on time and remain at work for the duration of shift.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Bachelor degree in a job-related field with one (1) year minimum experience in GIS, cartography or related field. Ability to define precise descriptive geographic information. Accurate in data entry. Must be skilled in logical problem-solving. Must have the ability to multi-task in a high stress environment. Must be able to meet deadlines. Current Texas driver's license and automobile liability insurance required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES : Strong computer skills required. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Ability to analyze and problem-solve. Read and interpret data, periodicals, journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Write reports and business correspondence and effectively present information and respond to questions from agencies, government entities, districts and departments. Position requires regular contact with employees in other county departments and other agencies regarding Elections Office GIS applications. Prioritize and schedule work to meet deadlines. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Work independently in the absence of specific instructions.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS : Maintain the ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, kneel, and bend during the shift; Reach, grip and use fine dexterity; Push and pull objects; Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees; lift and carry up to 70 pounds repetitively; Frequently rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing; place arms above, at or below shoulder height; Use of vision and depth perception; Talking and hearing.
