What are the responsibilities and job description for the Formulation Chemist (On-site) position at Lucas Oil Products Inc?
Job Purpose : The Formulation Chemist is a highly visible and influential member of the R&D Department with responsibility for leading research projects supporting Product Quality and Development of new product formulations. This is a hands-on role with the expectation that the candidate will work primarily in a laboratory environment. He or She will execute assigned projects, though may conduct studies, manage projects, and work on large / complex projects independently. This role will consistently be responsible for multiple workstreams of varying complexity occurring at same time. A high level of communication and presentation skills are required.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Understands, complies with, and promotes safe laboratory and work practices, including appropriate safety regulations and procedures.
- Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple instruments and workflows simultaneously to maximize efficiency.
- Performs lubricant and fuel additive testing and qualification activities to meet established project deliverables.
- Ensures product compliance within the Quality Management System.
- Evaluates and interprets laboratory or field performance data. Provides technical recommendations to senior leadership and business functions regarding results, chemistry / component viability, and necessary characterizations or testing. Completes special projects as assigned.
- Participates in technical and / or project reviews and presents findings as appropriate. Engages with assigned teams and cross-functional stakeholders, such as business, manufacturing, marketing, etc.
- Maintains accurate, up-to-date laboratory records in accordance with established procedures. Ensures objectivity and accuracy in reporting and recording data.
- May direct or supervise the activities of other team members as appropriate or necessary.
- Fills in as needed for laboratory technician duties supporting plant operations.
- Summarizes experimental strategies, data analysis, and conclusions in written reports and presentations for communication within Lucas Oil Products or with customers.
- Consults with customers as necessary to review and explain results, offers insight and analytical perspective, and ensures that project deliverables are achieved.
- Participates in CAPA and quality incident, investigations as requested, takes action to correct ISO or Quality compliance issues as they are identified.
- May represent company in technical conferences, societies, and other industry activities as assigned or requested. Maintains adequate level of technical expertise and professional development through training, self-study, seminars, etc. Stays informed of advanced developments inside and outside of company.
- Conducts independent method development or statistical referencing of test methods as required.
- Performs non-standard product testing and develops novel testing procedures as required to achieve project deliverables.
- Conducts or orchestrates instrument maintenance, calibration, and referencing as needed.
- Provides regular reports to the Director Research and Development and / or Plant Manager.
- Understands and maintains compliance with standards, regulations and required disclosures.
- Participates in IP activities as required, including competitor reviews, freedom to practice assessments, patent filings, invention disclosures, etc.
- Provides training & coaching on technical issues to both peers and associates.
