Function of Position:
Conduct school district health program in assigned schools. Assist with student illness and emergency health problems. Assist with the correction of physical and social problems that interfere with effective learning.
Qualifications:
Education - Bachelor's or higher degree and valid certificate of registration from Board of Nurse Examiners and Nurse Registration, State of California.
Experience - Prefer some employment as registered nurse or school nurse for minimum of two years.
Knowledge of health education programs, childhood diseases and health problems.
Ability to conduct health education programs, identify health related problems and make appropriate referrals to other health care providers and service agencies.
License Required: School Nurse credential.
Typical Duties:
Carry out policies, standards and objectives for the school health program; conduct inservice education for district personnel and community in the areas of school health and first aid; promote intercommunication with physicians, dentists and community agencies to provide better health for inspections, interviews and alalysis of records; assist individual schools in determining extent of illness or injury to students; assume responsibility for mandated screening and follow-up procedures; make home calls as needed; help pupils accept and adjust to physical, mental and social limitations; help parents and school personnel understand and accept children with limitations; observe school environment for hazards and sanitary conditions and report to responsible person when necessary; keep school health records as required; perform other duties as assigned.
