The Sr. Engineer Dimensional oversees lessons learned from current production to future product development for EV body structures, ensuring quality standards are met during development and post-manufacturing. This role focuses on dimensional quality by collaborating with manufacturing and engineering to resolve issues and ensure future products meet high dimensional standards.
You Will:
- Review locating strategy, critical characteristics, measurement plan for future product development
- Assess EV body structures at factories and service centers to identify dimensional deviations and communicate findings to Engineering
- Lead root cause analysis for dimensional discrepancies found in development, field, and manufacturing, working with cross-functional teams to develop and implement corrective actions during pre-production builds
- Use data-driven methodologies such as Six Sigma, 8D, and SPC (Statistical Process Control) to identify trends, prioritize issues, and ensure effective resolutions
- Collaborate with design engineering, craftsmanship, vehicle integration on dimensional control plan development for new model programs
- Coordinate with design and manufacturing teams to ensure that lessons learned from field issues are incorporated into future designs and production processes
- Work with Vehicle Architecture team to ensure Dimensional strategies throughout the vehicle are being developed at the highest Quality standards
- Work closely with design, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to ensure that dimensional accuracy requirements during development are understood and met
- Lead cross-functional reviews during development and field issues, driving accountability and ensuring that actions are implemented effectively
- Maintain accurate records of field issues, dimensional inspections, and quality metrics
- Ensure all documentation complies with company standards and regulatory requirements
- Act as an ambassador for Manufacturing during the future product development process for Dimensional Excellence
You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field required
- 5 years of experience in automotive body structure engineering, with a focus on dimensional accuracy, field support, and quality planning
- 5 years of experience in automotive manufacturing/quality engineering, with a focus on body structure and closures dimensional accuracy, field support, and dimensional quality planning
- Knowledge in dimensional analysis tools and software (e.g., CMM, laser scanners, GD&T, CAD software)
- Experience in applying GD&T and APQP processes, including FMEA, control plans, and PPAP
- Experience in field issue resolution, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other quality/process improvement methodologies
- Experience in the EV sector or with advanced automotive technologies as a manufacturing, quality or design and release engineer
- Design and Release Experience on Body Structures and Closures is a plus
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements for EV body structures
