The Senior Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities for clients.
* This position can be Hybrid in Brookfield, WI, with the understand that initial training will occur at the office, and that occasional travel to local clients may be required.*
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs general accounting and other related duties for the organization.
- Prepares monthly balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statements.
- Maintains the general ledger.
- Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts and closes the monthly books.
- Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits and disbursements.
- Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts and other financial accounts.
- Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit
- Files payroll and sales tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
- Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
- Execute assigned tasks and projects with minimal oversight, ensuring high-quality outcomes and adherence to deadlines.
- Review work completed by junior staff members, providing constructive feedback and ensuring adherence to company standards and project requirements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
- Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Ability to correctly prepare tax reports.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field, strongly preferred.
- 5 years of related experience required.
- At least 2-3 years of public accounting firm experience.
- At least 2-3 years of QuickBooks Online experience.
- Certified in QuickBooks Online.
