Drop Installation Technician

Install Tech:

The Drop Wire (Buried Wire) Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting buried drop wires to residential and commercial locations. The role involves ensuring reliable and high-quality service for telecommunications, internet, and cable installations while adhering to safety standards, company procedures, and customer satisfaction goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Installation & Maintenance:
• Install, splice, and secure buried drop wires from distribution points to customer premises (residential and commercial).
• Perform trenching, boring, or plowing methods to bury drop wires in compliance with local codes and regulations.
• Utilize hand and power tools to bury wires, install pedestals, and seal connections to ensure waterproofing and protection.
• Technical Operations:
• Conduct signal testing, troubleshooting, and adjustments to optimize service performance.
• Ensure proper grounding and bonding of drop wires according to technical specifications.
• Identify and repair faults, shorts, or signal interruptions using diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Safety & Compliance:
• Follow all safety guidelines and company protocols during installations and repairs, including OSHA standards.
• Verify job site conditions and locate underground utilities before performing work.
• Complete job-site clean-up, restoration, and documentation to meet local codes and minimize customer disruptions.
• Customer Interaction:
• Interact with customers in a professional manner to explain work being performed, service features, and answer basic questions.
• Ensure customer satisfaction through quality installations and timely service completion.
• Documentation & Reporting:
• Maintain accurate records of completed installations, repairs, and tests using company systems or devices.
• Submit daily reports to supervisors, highlighting job completions, issues encountered, and required follow-ups.

Qualifications:

• Experience:
• Previous experience in drop wire installation, telecom, or utility work preferred.
• Familiarity with underground cable installation techniques (e.g., trenching, plowing, boring).
• Technical Skills:
• Knowledge of telecommunication systems, including copper and fiber-optic wiring.
• Experience using signal testers, splicing tools, and trenching equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, schematics, and work orders.
• Safety Awareness:
• Understanding of OSHA regulations and safety practices related to underground work.
• Knowledge of utility location and “Call Before You Dig” guidelines.
• Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks such as bending, digging, and standing for long periods.
• Other Requirements:
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Willingness to travel to job sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certifications in cabling, fiber optics, or utility work (e.g., OSHA, NESC standards).
• Experience with plowing machines or trenching tools.

Compensation & Benefits

• $20-23/hr install rate
• $16/hr travel rate
