General Construction Laborers/Operator
Reports to: Crew Foreman or Construction Manager
Salary Range: $18 - $24/ Hour
Full Time
Hourly, Non-Exempt
Purpose
Perform tasks involving physical labor at construction sites and operating vehicles and some heavy equipment. This position will assist with point repairs on sanitary lines and storm lines as well as performing asphalt and concrete restoration. This position may require heavy equipment, such as the backhoe, track hoe, front-end loader, and skid steer, to complete jobs. Must be able to work around heavy equipment safely while wearing appropriate PPE. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, and clean up rubble, debris, and other waste materials. May assist other craft workers.

- No formal educational credential
- Short-term on-the-job training
- Equipment operating experience
General Qualifications
- Required:
- Must have avalid Driver’s license (Regular License or CDL A)
- Must be between 21-75 years of age (Over 70 requires an acceptable annual letter of health from a registered doctor or their representative).
- Must download the Teletrac application on a smartphone and complete daily electronic DVIR.
- May not have more than five (5) minor violations in the past thirty-six (36) months.
- May not have more than one (1) at-fault accident In the past thirty-six (36) months.
- Preferred:
- High School diploma or GED,
- Great people skills, communication skills, and problem-solving skills.
- Must have reliable transportation to work
- Basic knowledge of the construction industry
- Ability to determine the right kind of tool and equipment needed to do a job
- Commitment to performing quality work while putting safety first
- Possess a strong sense of personal responsibility and the ability to perform manual labor in all weather conditions.
- Must use a cell phone device to clock in and out for shifts and lunches.
Working Conditions
This position could require evenings, nights, and some weekends. This position will be performed mainly outdoors and sometimes in inclement weather. This will require working with the city and meeting safety standards, ASTM specs, laws, and regulations.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 50 pounds, stand and kneel for long periods, and be physically active.
Tasks
- Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials
- Read plans, instructions, or specifications to determine work activities
- Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications
- Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed
- Excavate, prepare sites, dig ditches, or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes
- Mix, pour, or spread concrete, using portable cement mixers
- Tend pumps, compressors, or generators to provide power for tools, machinery, or equipment or to heat or move materials, such as asphalt
- Erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring boxes, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures
- Assist craft workers, such as carpenters, plasterers, or masons
- Lubricate, clean, or repair machinery, equipment, or tools
- Position or dismantle forms for pouring concrete, using saws, hammers, nails, or bolts
- Smooth or finish freshly poured cement or concrete, using floats, trowels, screeds, or powered cement finishing tools
- Operate jackhammers or drills to break up concrete or pavement
- Perform various tasks involving physical labor
- May operate hand and power tools of all types, measuring equipment, saws, shovels, drills, and a variety of other tools and equipment
- Assist other crew members in placing pipes, and loading and unloading equipment and materials.
- Clean and maintain tools, trucks, and equipment
- Use hand tools to dig around existing utility structures to prevent damage

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
