The purpose of this job description is to report the functions, requirements, working conditions, and office responsibilities of the Assistant School Age Director.
Essential Functions
The Assistant School Age Director is responsible for assisting in the managing, planning, designing, implementing and evaluation of the school age programs to provide a safe, healthy and educational learning environment for all children and families served in accordance with state regulations. The Assistant School Age Director will assist in overseeing the operations of the school age programs. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with club staff (professional and part time), club members, and
Supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret
guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel.
External: Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members and others
to assist in resolving problems.
Requirements
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education / Experience: Four-year degree in the field of early childhood education, elementary education, related field or equivalent experience. Must meet The Department of Early Education and Care requirements for Site Coordinator. Must have a minimum of six months experience working with School Age Children.
Skills/Knowledge
Work environment is fast paced in an office/classroom setting. Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities. The noise level is usually moderate. General conditions may include the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed materials. Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds, and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.

- Overall supervision, administration, and functioning of the school age programs in accordance with established standards and goals.
- Establish School Age Program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.
- Oversee the provision of day-to-day program operation in accordance with established standards and goals.
- Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback in high-yield activities to promote academic success, healthy lifestyles and good character and citizenship.
- Supervise and lead staff, design program plans, and oversee daily activities.
- Maintain program cleanliness.
- Maintain customer service; greet all members, parents and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
- Assist in observing staff and coach on effective communication, member interaction, activity implementation, parent relationships and adherence to the mission of the school age programs.
- Assist in leading staff to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities in line with BGCA Formula for Impact to promote growth and development.
- Ensure members’ individual needs are met and members are challenged and inspired. Varying programs and activities are offered throughout the year that promote the exploration of new skills, discovery of new talents, gender and cultural diversity.
- Interact with members to build positive relationships with respect, trust and care. Provide members with support and encouragement.
- Monitor school age program space to maintain a safe and healthy environment. Space is well ventilated, well lit and equipment is maintained and in good working condition.
- Assist in maintaining members’ files and reports.
- Plan and implement family engagement activities.
- Assist the School Age Director to maintain compliance with all EEC regulations.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development, and conferences.
- Conduct administrative duties, which include but are not limited to assisting with intake of new families, hiring of new staff, maintaining staff records, maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Communicate problems or concerns to the School Age Director.
- Assist to observe, document, and monitor staff’s professional development.
- Assist to conduct formal performance reviews and lead regular staff meetings.
- Assist with concerns regarding member’s progress and any problems/issues.
- Provides guidance and direction of staff techniques.
- Promote and participate in open and effective communication and support with staff.
- Ensure productive and effective performance by all staff.
- Allocate and monitor work assigned to staff providing on going feedback and regular appraisal.
- Solicit feedback to continually improve the program.
- Marketing and Public Relations
- A high level of enthusiasm, energy and commitment is demonstrated in personal contact with members and families.
- Develop and maintain constructive and ongoing rapport with members and families.
- Encourage family involvement.
- Assist is consulting with parents concerning members and developmental development.
- Maintain liaison with families, schools, business, and agencies within the community.
- Demonstrate a continual commitment to consistent, meaningful, positive parent involvement as well as to the school age program goals and objectives.
- Preparation of all required documentation and materials for EEC.
- Participate in special programs and/or events (i.e. Annual Auction, Youth of the Year, Award Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary.
- May be required to conduct and participate in various organizational fund-raisers.
- May be required to assist in program areas outside of normal responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned.

- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Knowledge of Youth Development
- Minimum one-year management experience in a school age setting or related field.
- Knowledge of modern office methods working with computers, data entry and with Microsoft Office, email, and internet
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; above average interpersonal skills
- Honesty, integrity and operating as a team player are critical to this organization
