What are the responsibilities and job description for the Educational Interpreter – American Sign Language to English position at Ludlow Elementary School?
Two Rivers Supervisory Union is looking for an Educational Interpreter to work at Ludlow Elementary School starting in August 2024.
I. Job Summary: The Educational Interpreter provides interpretation to students who are deaf/hard of hearing/deafblind, who receive all or part of their education in mainstream educational settings. The educational interpreter’s primary function is to facilitate communication between the deaf student, their hearing peers, the classroom teacher, and other educational staff. Other job requirements may include tutoring (under the supervision of the classroom teacher or TOD), pre-teaching signs and concepts related to unit vocabulary, and test reading. Educational Interpreters are related services providers and are expected to participate in meetings with the student’s IEP team.
II. General Qualifications:
A degree from an interpreter training program, or an EIPA score of a 4.0 or greater
Demonstration of sufficient linguistic fluency and cognitive flexibility to pass the VTEHDI screening process
Advanced cultural knowledge of the Deaf community
Use ethical judgment in making decisions in accordance with the NAIE code of professional conduct
Interpreters must have the knowledge and experience to pass the Educational Interpreter Proficiency Assessment (EIPA) with a 4.0 or greater
Ability to work in a fast-paced setting
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively and independently
Knowledge, sensitivity, and ability to bridge ethnic values, cultural beliefs and behaviors
Ability to work with diverse populations from various cultural/economic backgrounds and age groups
III. Functions and Responsibilities
Interpreting assignments can range from but are not limited to administrative meetings, student and parent conferences, educational mainstreaming, in-services, mental health situations, IEP/ISP meetings, guest lectures, field trips, performing arts, and formal ceremonies.

Participate in all in-service and staff development activities, as appropriate
