Job Title : Family Engagement Specialist-21st Century Grant Program
Reports to : Project Director of 21st Century Grant Program
Dept. / School : District Education Center
Primary Purpose :
The Family Engagement Specialist encourages family / parental involvement in the school and provides ongoing, educational programs to immediate family members, parents / legal guardians of students enrolled in the Texas ACE Program / 21st Century Grant Program. The family engagement specialist coordinates services with the district and the school community and provides evidence of a resource center with relevant and usable information with multiple community and school resources.

Bachelor's Degree
Special Knowledge / Skills :
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Familiar with the community and support agencies
Adaptable to meet the needs of the families in the program in addition to working flexible hours to accommodate work in the evening
Knowledge of techniques for partnership development
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing
Ability to make effective presentations
Ability to work with students and families of diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds
Experience :
Minimum of two years of successful experience in teaching, counseling, social work, or related field preferred
Experience working within the public school system preferred
Bilingual preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties :

1. Plans, coordinates, and implements a Family Engagement Program in each center
2. Works closely with the center and the Parent Teacher Organization
3. Plans and organizes Family Support Service workshops
4. Promotes parent and community volunteers at the center
5. Works closely with at-risk students to ensure they receive continued support for their educational goals
6. Informs families of community resources that could provide needed assistance.
7. Develops Family Resource Centers to check out periodicals, videos, books and educational games / materials for the entire family
8. Performs other duties as assigned

Use proper phone etiquette at all times, speaking slowly and clearly. Take reliable messages, and route to the appropriate staff.

Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe.
Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external customers.
