Job Title: Lead Systems Engineer - Systems Monitoring
Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled Lead Systems Engineer to support systems monitoring initiatives for upcoming projects in 2025 and beyond. This role is responsible for administering software tools for systems and applications monitoring, with expertise in at least one monitoring tool such as DataDog.
Key Responsibilities:

Administer and manage DataDog on a Linux platform to monitor Java-based applications running on Tomcat Application Server.

Configure and maintain infrastructure monitoring, network monitoring, and centralized logging.

Work with monitoring tools such as ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) for log management and visualization.
-
Maintain a strong Linux (Red Hat) environment and automate tasks using Python, Shell, or Ansible.

Manage SSL setup on Linux servers, including installing CA certificates.
-
Support network monitoring and troubleshoot issues related to switches, routers, Palo Alto Network utilization (SNMP), F5 Load Balancers, WebSeal, Info Blocks, and Gigamon.

Utilize additional monitoring tools such as Big Panda and CloudBeat (Synthetic Monitoring) to monitor business transactions and application performance.

Develop and maintain monitoring scripts, integrate tools, and collaborate with different teams to enhance system performance.
Primary Tasks:
-
Configure and maintain DataDog for network, infrastructure (Linux, Windows, AIX), and log monitoring.

Set up centralized logging for WebSphere, Tomcat, and web servers on DataDog in Linux.

Build interactive dashboards for data visualization.
-
Instrument Java applications with DataDog APM, set up health rules, and optimize monitoring.

Configure end-user monitoring/browser real-user monitoring using JavaScript injection.

Develop Selenium scripts for CloudBeat s Synthetic Monitoring to track business transactions.

Troubleshoot and analyze production issues, generate reports, and recommend solutions.

Document monitoring processes and best practices and provide training on tool usage.

Collaborate with system and application architecture teams to ensure monitoring is integrated early in the development process.

Review and analyze business and system requirements to enhance monitoring protocols.

Technical Skills:

5-8 years of experience in IT infrastructure and distributed systems.

Hands-on experience with monitoring tools administration, such as DataDog, ELK Stack, or similar tools.

Strong expertise in Linux (Red Hat) and Windows Server environments.

Experience with scripting (Python, Shell, Ansible).

Knowledge of SSL certificates and encryption methods on Linux.

Understanding of TCP/IP, VPNs, LAN/WAN, VMWare, SQL Server, and database architectures.

Familiarity with service level management (SLAs, SLRs, etc.).
-
Experience with agile methodologies (SAFe preferred).

Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Preferred Certifications:
-
ITIL Foundations v3 (within 180 days of joining).

SAFe Certification.
