Senior Security Engineer
Job Location: Remote (Candidate Needs to reside in DC/MD/VA)
Overview
We are seeking a skilled Senior Network Security Engineer to operate and maintain critical network security infrastructure. The role requires a proactive approach to managing, securing, and optimizing network and cybersecurity systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain network security infrastructure, including Palo Alto firewalls, F5 WAF, Illumio, Proofpoint gateways, IDS, AWS security tools, and more.
- Respond promptly to network issues, outages, and change requests.
- Perform system maintenance and provide recommendations for network and security hardware/software enhancements.
- Utilize monitoring tools to address capacity, performance, and availability issues before service degradation.
- Implement automation to streamline processes, improve deployment efficiency, and reduce errors.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to address urgent needs.
- Mentor junior engineers and foster knowledge sharing.
- Cross-train team members to enhance collective expertise and workload distribution.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated expertise with Palo Alto firewalls.
- Experience with F5 WAF and/or Illumio Microsegmentation.
- Proficient knowledge of TCP/IP fundamentals, IP subnetting, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), and network management.
- Expertise in point-to-point, VPN, and other WAN connectivity options.
Bonus Skills
- Experience with AWS security tools.
- Knowledge of Proofpoint Gateway (Email Security).
- Familiarity with Splunk and Palo Alto SOAR.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- In lieu of a degree, 4 additional years of relevant experience are required.
- Experience: 5 years of relevant IT security experience.
- Preferred Certifications:
- CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional)
- CISM (Certified Information Security Manager)
- CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker)
- CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor)
