Position Overview
A school maintenance employee repairs various items, systems and/or components (e.g. roofs, furniture, bleachers, fences, playground equipment, concrete walkways, air conditioning equipment, door locks, lockers, pipes, valves, fittings, clogged drains, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
Maintenance Tasks: Performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as fixing leaky faucets, changing light bulbs, repairing broken furniture, and maintaining heating and cooling systems.
Groundskeeping: Maintaining outdoor areas such as sidewalks, parking lots, and playgrounds by sweeping, removing debris, and keeping pathways clear of snow and ice during winter months. Emptying garbage outside garbage cans,picking up trash on the property, and maintaining a clean dumpster fenced in the area.
Security and Safety: Securing school premises by locking doors and windows, ensuring proper functioning of security systems, and reporting any suspicious activities or safety hazards to appropriate authorities.
Event Setup and Cleanup: Assisting with setting up and taking down equipment and furniture for school events, meetings, and assemblies.
Compliance with Regulations: Adhering to health and safety regulations, as well as school policies and procedures regarding cleanliness and maintenance.
Emergency Response: Responding promptly to emergency situations such as spills, leaks, or accidents to minimize potential hazards and ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors.
Collaboration: Collaborating with other school staff members, including teachers, administrators, and other maintenance personnel, to address maintenance issues and maintain a clean and functional learning environment.
Record-Keeping: Maintaining records of cleaning activities, repairs, and maintenance tasks performed, as well as reporting any issues or concerns to supervisors or relevant personnel.
Maintenance Daily Duties and Responsibilities:
Checks work orders daily and able to prioritize tasks
Keeps buildings and property in clean and orderly condition.
Checks pest control traps
Performs routine maintenance activities.
Carpentry tasks
Door lock repairs
Ceiling Tile Maintenance
Assembling, repairing and removing student and staff furniture
Wall hangings and decor installation
Moving furniture to desired location
Clean out air filters in portable air units and can perform necessary
Floor tile maintenance
Light plumbing tasks
Snaking drains
Changing out flush valves
Change out faucets
Repair leaks
Can shut off and turn on water from isolated valves
Preforms boiler daily checks
Electrical tasks
Changing out outlets and switches
Replacing light ballasts
Replacing electric plugs
Notifies direct supervisor regarding the need for repairs needing additional assistance
