Job Summary
The Train Operator Apprentice is an entry level position requiring training in the operation of diesel locomotives and loading and unloading of commodities such as ash and western coal.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs switching operations.
- Performs light maintenance repairs to locomotives and railcars.
- Complies with the Vistra safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Complies with Vistra Railroad Operating Rule Book and Local Operating Procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Work is of a physical nature and performed in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions.
- Must be willing to work a rotating 12-hour shift and overtime as scheduled or assigned.
Train Operator Apprentice is a bargaining unit position represented by IBEW 2337. Hourly rate is $28.81.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Knowledge of basic math, reading, and writing skills required.
- Previous railroad operations or maintenance experience is not required but would be a plus.
