The Senior Test and Characterization Engineer at Freedom Photonics will work with the Freedom Photonics R&D team to develop and execute test and characterization plans for a wide variety of photonic components. This will include design, implementation, and execution of experiments for materials characterization, device characterization and FMA. The Senior Test and Characterization Engineer will also implement bench top system demonstrations for PIC and laser components applied to various applications in fields including but not limited to quantum sensing, gas sensing, remote sensing, and telecommunications. With time the Senior Test and Characterization Cngineer will be expected to begin leading development programs, interfacing with customers, and providing technical support to the business development team in writing proposals.
Responsibilities
- Interface with the photonic design team to define appropriate tests for novel new devices.
- Collect data, and plot and summarize data for review with device scientists
- Test set maintenance and calibration
- Construction of new test sets
- Assist in generation of process documentation for manufacturing
- Generate and maintain test documentation
- Assisting with photonic device cad layout
- Work with Excel, JMP, Power Point, Matlab to analyze and present data and findings
Required Skills
Education / Experience
Masters degree in physics, Electrical engineering, or Computer Science or other related field, with 2 years' experience in industry. Other equivalent qualification will be considered.

At Luminar, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays a base between $114,000 and $149,000 per year. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. You will also be eligible to receive other benefits including : equity in the form of restricted stock unit awards, comprehensive medical and dental coverage, 401k plan, life and disability benefits, flexible time off, paid parental leave, and tuition reimbursement for formal education related to advancing your career at Luminar. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire and schedule type.
