Cracking heaters are the heart of an ethylene plant. Their design is of critical importance to the overall performance of the process, and most of the new technology development related to greenhouse gas reduction is focused on the cracking heaters. Lummus Technology is seeking a Pyrolysis Specialist to support the Ethylene Business Group for conventional cracking heater design, cracking yield generation, and technology development for pyrolysis. This role will conduct all aspects of process design for cracking heaters as well as lead the development of new technology related to pyrolysis.

Lummus Technology is seeking a Pyrolysis Specialist to support the Ethylene Business Group for conventional cracking heater design, cracking yield generation, and technology development for pyrolysis. This role will conduct all aspects of process design for cracking heaters as well as lead the development of new technology related to pyrolysis.
Details of the Role
- Predict the pyrolysis yield for the various cracker feedstocks and for unusual feedstocks by using both our proprietary models and the regression of plant or lab data.
- To continuously improve both the process side and firebox side of the SRT pyrolysis module (heater & quench sections).
- Contribute to development efforts to investigate alternate approaches to conventional pyrolysis including catalytic cracking or catalytic pyrolysis.
- Assist in trouble shooting any unconventional operating issues that may occur in an SRT heater.
- Provide kinetic support for alternate reactor design concepts.
- Keep current with and assess the literature of on-going research in the industry for both pyrolysis and other thermal or catalytic cracking approaches.
- Maintain and update our technology models associated with the SRT pyrolysis module.
- Assist with reactor design and development activities involving reactors or kinetic modeling with all our technologies.
- Performs process design calculations and simulations.
- Schedules and estimates required work effort.
- Performs other job assignments as required.
Basic Qualifications
- M.S. in Chemical Engineering with thesis/research work in reaction kinetics or masters project in reaction kinetics.
- Work experience in the ethylene industry and familiarity with the design of cracking heaters is a plus.
- Proficient in all engineering computer tools
- Knowledge of process and systems design tools and procedures
- Ability to make sound engineering judgment decisions
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills
- Ability to work effectively independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to supervise and coach entry level engineers as necessary
- Ability and willingness to travel (domestic and international).
