If you have experience preparing drawings for the construction of new overhead or underground links, cables, and conduits—and you're eager to thrive in a fast-paced environment, contribute to our growth, and drive process improvements that maximize our technology while expanding our service capabilities—we want to hear from you!   Lumos’s OSP Engineer plans and prepares drawings for the construction of new overhead or underground links, cables, and conduits to obtain optimum and economical utilization of communications facilities. You select the most cost-beneficial route for all lines and equipment for projects—ensuring our network continues to expand throughout the regions we’re privileged to serve. We’ll never stop reinventing ourselves to meet our customers’ evolving needs - because we know that our work, delivering 100% fiber optic internet, truly changes people’s lives.   Essential Functions   Designs fiber cable fields, splicing sequences, planning and prepares cost estimates and design loss calculations to accomplish OSP construction projects; delivering FTTH network from source to the point at which Service Operations Technicians can turn up service. Maps and drafts utilizing CAD and manual processes & research and updates International Construction Measurement Standards (ICMS) records, appropriate permits, and ISP designs. Manages and tracks OSP work schedules to ensure alignment with project requirements and timelines develops cost studies, performs estimates, reports on project progress, as well budget forecasting, tracking, & reporting. Liaise with city officials to manage permitting processes and ensure compliance. Liaises with customers regarding land acquisitions for easements. Provides real-time direction to colleagues to meet project timelines & contractual obligations. Communicates and appropriately escalates contractual, technical, or scheduling requirements that are in jeopardy. Notifies leadership of any sensitive issues that could affect customer or project progress. Reviews of all permits, rights of way, easements, and negotiations needed for project completion. Tracks and follows up on all issues and actions encountered by colleagues and vendors. Integrate innovations into design and engineering practices and work. Collaborate with the Sales Team on an as-needed basis to develop tailored design solutions for potential customers. Oversees and guide design-permitting vendors, ensuring their work aligns with business objectives and project requirements. Performs other duties as assigned, including departmental and cross-functional projects.   Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required                                                                                                                        Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated project management experience. Strong knowledge of OSHA rules, site safety, National Electric Safety Code (NESC) requirements, and associated construction and telecommunications federal and local regulations. Proficient in MS Office; able to create reports, presentations, and project documentation. Able to respond promptly, manage multiple tasks & customer needs, and prioritize progress toward deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Working knowledge of all aspects of company processes including but limited to: OSP construction; Site preparation and permitting; OSP testing and acceptance standards; Creating design for local L2 and Transport architecture; Google Earth and various fiber mapping platforms.   Other Experience & Requirements   5 years’ technical experience working in OSP Engineering, Construction, or Operations. High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred. Proactive, independent, and collaborative - takes initiative to keep on-task and on-target.
