Job Summary
The Biotech Group welcomes interns into its seasonal (semester supported) opportunities for the purpose of supporting research across multiple biomedical research and development projects. Selected interns are expected to be available for a maximum of 90-days, Monday thru Friday, and during core business hours of 9AM – 5PM beginning May 15 th thru August 15 th . The primary objectives for the Luna Labs Summer Internship program are to provide students exposure to a professional work and lab environment and an opportunity to develop new technical skills and present relevant research as a final project.
This Specific Internship Position Will Support Research On The Biomaterials And NanoPharma Teams, Specifically Focused On Projects In The Biomaterials-based Drug Delivery Space. It Is Envisioned That This Intern Will Work On Projects Developing Thermo-sensitive Hydrogels And Nanoparticle Drug Delivery Vehicles. Example Work Might Include

- Polymeric hydrogel production and characterization using rheometry
- Nanoparticle production and characterization using dynamic light scattering
- In vitro drug loading and release testing
- Routine maintenance of mammalian cell lines for in vitro barrier permeation and cell-targeting studies
- Accurately logging and allocating time in time tracking system
- Effectively support multiple research projects
- Able to provide regular onsite support during a 40hr work week
- Demonstrated independence within 30-days of internship
- Maintain assigned lab research documentation
- Prepare and present final research summary
- Rising Junior or Senior with STEM focus
- Demonstrated research experience in a relevant laboratory environment
- Experience in basic cell culture technique considered a plus
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team setting
- Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Duties are primarily completed onsite from the Luna Labs’ Charlottesville office location
- Occasional travel to client sites or related events may be required.
- This role involves working in a laboratory environment and interacting with technical staff.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 100lbs may be required.
