Description
The Research and Collection Librarian is a member of the Library Department who provides research services, library instruction, and takes the lead on collection management. This is a 0.83 FTE position with the option to work 10-months full time or 12 months with modified hours.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES :
As a member of the Preus Library Leadership Group, the Research and Collection Librarian shares responsibility for defining and delivering research-based services to the faculty, students, and staff of Luther College, including :
- Collecting and managing research resources to support the academic mission of Luther College as an institution of higher education.
- Participating in the teaching and learning of the institution through information literacy and research training initiatives, including instruction and the creation of online learning objects.
- Providing research assistance and outreach through existing library programs
- Participating in the management and staffing of public service points in Preus Library, including Sundays
As the librarian in charge of collection management, the Research and Collection Librarian's position encompasses :
Collaborating with library liaisons / academic departments for acquisitions in support of the curriculum and research needs.Serving as the Copyright Officer / Specialist for Luther College, responding to questions and clarifications on the use of copyrighted materials in accordance with United States Law and Luther College policies.Examining user accessibility to electronic records and maintaining cataloguing standards with enhanced metadata and local notes as appropriate.Managing the extraction and evaluation of electronic resource usage statistics to assist with reporting and budget projections / decisions.Serving as the Preus Library contact for OCLC and WMS, coordinating communication on troubleshooting and user enhancement requests.Supporting the work of technical services, including oversight of cataloging, acquisition of research resources, copyright clearance, and deselection of materials identified as not meeting current collection standardsObserving and evaluating the needs of Luther College scholars for static / free open access (OA) publication of their work. Assisting and educating faculty on publishing options and developing an author profile.Monitoring trends and developments relevant to academic libraries, particularly in the areas of metadata standards, cataloging practices, authority control, digital collections, and user experienceParticipating in the library budgeting process, in communications, negotiations, and licensing with vendors and consortia, and in verification of invoices for payment.Other duties as assignedSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Education :
Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited program or a recognized international equivalent.Experience :
Experience with evaluation, acquisition, and promotion of varied models of large electronic collections or subscriptions.Experience with materials selection for a variety of academic collection areasExperience demonstrating electronic resources within the context of information literacy.Familiarity with integrated library systems, acquisitions workflows, and original cataloging.Interest or expertise in two or more of the following : copyright and fair use; cataloging and metadata standards and practices; emerging technologies in academic libraries; publishing impact factors; open access publishing; other relevant area of specialization.Affinity for the instructional goals and student experience found in a residential liberal arts college.Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the collegePHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT :
