Job Summary
The Director of Nursing is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the nursing staff and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care within our facility. This position requires a dedicated professional with extensive experience in nursing management, who can effectively lead a team while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. The Director of Nursing will play a crucial role in developing policies, managing nursing operations, and advocating for resident rights.

Responsibilities
1. Develop, maintain and periodically update written policies and procedures that govern day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department.

2. Works to ensure that the Nursing Department meets all State and Federal regulatory requirements.

3. Promote and maintain good working relationships among nursing staff, medical staff, residents and the public.

4. Direct coordination of nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care.

5. Prepare for and participate in surveys/inspections made by authorized government agencies.

6. Communicate regularly and effectively with the Administrator concerning the operation of the Nursing Department.

7. Assist Licensed Social worker with review of referrals for admission.

8. Perform or delegate administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, studies, insurance forms as necessary.

9. Develop and maintain departmental organizational structure.

10. Develop staffing patterns based on resident needs/acuity.

11. Determine staffing needs of units in order to meet the total nursing needs of the residents. Ensure that sufficient numbers of nursing personnel are assigned for each tour of duty to provide quality care.

12. Direct and delegate management of professional and ancillary nursing personnel.

13. Direct staff in developing, maintaining, and periodically updating written job descriptions for each nursing position.

14. Delegate to Nursing Department supervisory staff the authority, responsibility and accountability necessary to perform their assigned duties.

15. Conduct monthly meetings with professional staff to encourage participation in problem-solving and policy/procedure formulation, and to develop leadership skills.

16. Make periodic rounds to observe nursing care and visit with residents to ensure that quality of resident care is maintained.

17. Review complaints and grievances made or filed by residents, families, nursing personnel, or other personnel.

18. Maintain safe and efficient drug acquisition, storage, distribution and destruction program along with the consulting pharmacist.

19. Assists with move in assessments of Sun Center tenants.

20. Assists with arrangement of services for Sun Center tenants.

21. Assist Human Resources manager in recruitment and selection of nursing personnel.

22. Ensure that disciplinary action is administered fairly according to LMH corrective discipline policies.

23. Assist Human Resources Manager in determining nursing employees’ eligibility for wage increases.

24. Participate in Quality Assurance Program as member of Quality Assurance Committee; coordinate and direct QA activities for Nursing Department.

25. Ongoing monitoring of medication errors, falls and injuries and other events. Completing investigations and reports to state agencies as required.

26. Maintaining records of residents and conditions for the state emergency preparedness programs.

27. Assisting with completion of the monthly MDS schedule and monitoring MDS completion and resident classification reports.

28. Supervise Medical Records Clerk and direct medical records management.

29. Supervise Restorative Therapy Exercises and Restorative Therapy Activities staffs, assisted by Unit Managers.

30. Function as administrative liaison with consultants.

31. Represent LMH as needed in public relation efforts.

32. Represent LHM as needed in cooperating with other community agencies.

33. Shall adhere to the employee standards and code of conduct in addition to policies and procedures set forth in the corporate compliance program.

1. Education:

a. Must be a registered nurse with current North Dakotalicense to practice nursing.

b. Bachelor of Science in Nursing desirable.

2. Experience:

a. Must have experience in geriatric or long-term care.

b. Must have been successfully employed in a supervisory or management role for at least a year.

c. Must have demonstrated abilities in problem-solving and decision-making.

3. Aptitude and other Requirements:

a. Must have excellent people skills and ability to relate to staff.

b. Must have excellent written communication skills.

c. Must have ability to work cooperatively with a variety of people.

d. Must possess skill of diplomacy, delegation, problem-solving.

e. must have the ability to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change, and to work well under pressure.

f. Must have working knowledge of North Dakota Nurse Practice Act.

g. Must have working knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations for long term care.

h. Must have mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the job.

i. Must have strong organizational skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $93,600.00 - $114,400.00 per year
