STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The laundry technician is responsible for providing an adequate supply of clean and sanitary linen for direct and indirect patient care. The technician also is responsible for sorting, pre-spraying, washing, drying, inspecting, folding and delivering of the processed linen. This position full-time 40 hours per week working 2:30pm to 11pm Monday - Friday, no weekends occasional holidays.
JOB FUCTIONS
- Sorts and processes all linen into groups according to laundry type.
- Pre-spray and sometimes soak heavily soiled/contaminated items before processing.
- Weigh soiled linen and record on forms provided.
- Load washing machine and monitor operation.
- Unload washing machine and load into dryers. Reload washing machine and continue washing process.
- Unload dryers and fold and sort clean linen according to linen type.
- Load clean/folded linen onto delivery cart and delivery to multiple areas throughout the facility.
- Maintain work area in a clean and orderly fashion via daily sweeping, mopping and cleaning of equipment.
- Check and clean lint from the dryers daily.
- Collect soiled linen throughout the facility as time allows.
- May interact with patients while delivering/retrieving linen.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION: (LAUNDRY TECHNICIAN)
- PREPARATION AND TRAINING - Must be able to follow oral or written orders.
- WORK EXPERIENCE - No formal experience is required (1- 2 years’ experience preferred). On-the-job training is provided.
- ATTENDANCE - Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at JRMC. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees are also expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule.
- INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT - Independent judgment is required to establish priorities. Complete assignments, meet due dates as assigned for project. Must have the ability to manage multiple projects at a time. Excellent organization and planning skills as well as attention to detail required. Ability to provide direction to leadership.
- CONTACTS WITH OTHERS - Occasional contact with others outside the department. Frequently works in isolation.
- MATERIAL/EQUIPMENT - Probable financial costs would be moderate. Costs would be restricted to a single cost center.
- SAFETY OF OTHERS - Carelessness on the part of the employee could cause minor harm to others.
- WORK OF OTHERS - Little responsibility for planning, assigning or checking the work of others.
- MENTAL/VISUAL EFFORT - Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- WORKING CONDITIONS - Works in warm, sometimes humid environment. Participates in and complies with Jamestown Regional Medical Center Safety Management Program. Maintains knowledge of and observes Standard Precautions. Works beyond normal working hours during periods of high patient census. May be required to work on days other than the ones, which for hired on occasion. OSHA job classification: This position is defined as a Category 1: Employee does have exposure to blood borne pathogens.
- HAZARDS - Is subjected to disease and infection in the soiled linen section.
