Position Description
LCWS seeks an enthusiastic and organized candidate to join the team at a small, dynamic Washington semester program. The Internship Coordinator will mentor students throughout their internship search, providing editing support, preparing students for interviews, and assisting the Program Manager in developing application strategies for each student. The Internship Coordinator will also help develop additional career discernment and professional networking resources.
This position is ideal for someone interested in mentoring and providing professional support to students who are eager to make the most of their time in Washington, D.C. We are looking for someone who is hardworking, has a strong attention to detail, and has a commitment to providing students with the best possible experience.
This is a part-time position with flexible hours, which can be hybrid or fully remote, with the Internship Coordinator reporting directly to the Program Manager for Professional Development. The position is contract-based and the incumbent will be expected to work, on average, 10-15 hours per week. There will be some weeks during the internship recruitment cycle that may require more hours than others, typically between September - November and June - August. Pay starts at $20 per hour.
Duties & Responsibilities
Editing and Application Preparation
- Oversee the editing process for accepted students
- Provide initial edits of resumes & cover letters based on LCWS materials and recommendations
- Schedule initial editing meetings with students to provide comprehensive feedback on resumes and cover letters
- Schedule follow-up editing meetings with students until edits are complete
- Maintain editing resources and provide links and timely recommendations to students about editing questions
Internship Search Support
- Provide initial recommendations using LCWS records of prior student placements and internal databases to develop recommendations
- Search for new and diverse placement opportunities
- Use LCWS guides to teach best practices, ask relevant questions, and prepare students for interviews
Communication and Record-keeping
- Maintain clear records of each student’s application progress
- Communicate regularly with Program Manager for Professional Development to ensure that students are progressing effectively
- Provide timely and creative feedback on editing and application process, collaborating with the Program Manager for Professional Development to improve and streamline process
Skills & Qualifications
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year college or university
- Passion for the value of internships in the personal, professional, and academic development of students, especially in the context of a liberal arts education.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to effectively and efficiently copy edit job application materials
- Ability to maintain calendars and meeting appointments effectively with undergraduate students
- Familiarity with Google Workspace, Adobe, and Microsoft Suite
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Experience working for programs or offices related to career services/internships, admissions, student affairs, or other related fields in higher education
- Experience interning as an undergraduate or graduate student, preferably in Washington, DC
- Familiarity with Handshake, LinkedIn Jobs, Indeed, etc.
