What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mental Health Associate, Family Stabilization position at Lutheran Community Services Northwest?
POSITION SUMMARY: This individual will provide intensive services to families in which children are at risk of an out-of-home placement due to significant mental health needs. In addition, provide skills training to children, adolescents and adults to address issues within the home and community settings. Collaborate with community providers including mental health counselors, schools, probation, DHS, and primary care doctors to centralize treatment goals and services for children and their families.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assess and help family members prioritize barriers and identify strengths to meet the children’s needs for safety, permanence and stability within their homes
Utilize therapeutic treatment plans created by client’s counselors or Wrap Around team to direct services
Provide in-home services to children, adolescents and families with a flexible schedule.
Possess knowledge of dynamics of high-risk families including sexual abuse, physical abuse, trauma and domestic violence
Coordinate care with community providers currently working alongside of client and family
Refer client to supportive services needed for stability and development of strengths and to supplement treatment
Relate effectively with children, adolescents, parents, staff and the community
Provide a range of services including parent education, skill building including communication skills, home management, job readiness training, budgeting, and links to networks and community resources for parents
Provide a range of services including development of social skills, coping skills, and safety planning with client and family members
Participate in New Solutions Wrap Around Meetings and other community meetings client or family is involved with
Prepare for family sessions, including staffing with coworkers, supervisors, client’s counselor or referral source, and families
Stay updated in knowledge and skills in the field of family treatment and trauma informed care
Develop a written plan to appropriately use direct support funds for client family
Completed documentation of services with on-line record keeping system on a weekly basis
Provide intervention that is family-focused, culturally relevant, behavior and goal-directed
Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity in the delivery of client services as it relates to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the populations served

Must work a flexible schedule to meet families’ needs and be available for crisis consultation, 24 hours a day, seven days a week with the support of your supervisor and other home-based team members

Must be able to work in a multicultural setting
Requires strict adherence of HIPAA standards in the office workspace to ensure client confidentiality
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree granted by an accredited institution in a behavioral science or educational field, or three years of experience working in social services, educational, or another closely related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training
Cannot be excluded from participation in any federal healthcare programs (Medicaid, Medicare, and other federally funded programs that provide health benefits)
Must not be prohibited from entering school grounds or classrooms for any reason.
Previous experience working with high-risk families within the last five years, including one year experience working with children who experience mental illness and/or traumatic experiences, victims/perpetrators of domestic violence, and/or alcohol/drug addictions preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:A valid driver's license, car insurance, and access to a vehicle are required. Must meet State of Oregon Administrative Rule requirements for a Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA). Certified CADC I or CADC-R preferred but not required. Successful completion of a background check through DHS and the FBI is required.
