What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Support Specialist/Counselor position at Lutheran Community Services Northwest?
POSITION SUMMARY: The Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM) / Peer Support Specialist (PSS) Adult Addictions works as part of a multicultural team in supporting individuals of traditionally marginalized or underrepresented populations. This position takes a trauma informed and culturally responsive/culturally specific lens to support individuals in a strength-based approach who are, or have experienced substance use disharmony.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Demonstrating healthy coping strategies, self-care practices and positive behaviors, serving as a role model for sustained recovery
Maintaining accurate and timely records of interactions, progress, and milestones
Engaging clients in empathetic conversations and offering encouragement
Accompanying clients to recovery support activities or assisting with transportation logistics to recovery activities and community resources
Work collaboratively as a multidisciplinary team to support clients throughout the stages of recovery, the treatment process or navigating external systems
Offering guidance on navigating treatment options and resources
Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Lived experience as it relates to the program, services and client population.
Credentials: Meet the minimum qualifications to become a certified Peer Support Specialist (PSS) or Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM) required (or complete within 60 days of hire).
Transportation: This position requires reliable transportation for business purposes, such as between work locations and community settings. This position is responsible for driving clients in a personal and/or agency vehicle.
Language Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to read, write, and speak in English. Multilingual and culturally diverse individuals are encouraged to apply.
Clearances: Standard LCSNW criminal clearance, including national sex offender, ORCHARDS, SAM/OIG, motor vehicle records, and valid driver’s license and auto insurance required.
