SUMMARY
The Employment Specialist is jointly responsible for the rapid expansion of employer partners to ensure that employment opportunities are continuously available for refugee clients. This is accomplished by following a job development strategy: prospecting for job leads, meeting with employers to determine and negotiate specific job needs, selling refugee clients as solutions to employer needs, and following up with employers and clients to ensure satisfaction of all involved. Additionally this position is jointly responsible for the continuous assessment and counseling of adult refugee clients, creation of employment and career plans, and referring refugee community members to requested and/or necessary training programs. Building and maintaining relationships with employers is key to the success of this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Researches and identifies new industries and employers that may offer employment opportunities for refugees - initiating a prescribed number of new employer appointments.
- Complete employment orientation and basic plan with adult refugees including career planning - based on clients' interests, education, work experience, motivation and career goals, refer clients to appropriate training programs.
- Maintains constant contact with employers by utilizing methods such as site visits, telephone calls, newsletters, email, and hosting special events for employers.
- Assess refugee skills for particular jobs based upon employer needs and completes job application.
- Negotiates with employers to ensure specific refugee's skill sets align with employer needs.
- Document all employer contacts in all required databases. Maintain client records, including training program evaluations, internship supervisor reviews, case notes and other documents which demonstrate clients' progress toward career goals.
- Assist community members with resume writing, and other job readiness activities, as necessary. Counseling clients as needed to enhance motivation to work.
- Conducts ongoing post-placement follow up with employers to ensure successful employment outcomes and employer satisfaction.
- Coordinate childcare referrals and placements, as necessary.
- Provide intensive support for employed clients as necessary to promote job retention.
- Perform other duties as required.

- Sales, marketing and/or employment placement background preferred.

- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must have a driver's license, a good driving record and access to own transportation.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide proof of auto liability insurance at the level of $100,000/300,000/100,000

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university; or four years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Volunteers and interns as appropriate.
