The Youth Wellness Coordinator supports immigrant and refugee youth who are working to integrate in their new community and educational system. To prevent substance abuse and other risky behaviors, LFSRM will connect refugee and immigrant youth to caring adults through a high quality program that teaches social and emotional learning strategies, uses a positive youth development approach, and provides intensive wrap-around service to help refugee and immigrant youth thrive.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recruit eligible immigrant and refugee youth within the local school districts and community partners.
- Complete program enrollment and assessments with eligible youth and their families.
- Provide training at each school utilizing the evidence-based Social Emotional Learning curriculum for all youth enrolled in the program.
- Provide practical application sessions related to topics covered in SEL classes.
- Connect youth to additional wraparound support services as needed.
- Provide substance-use trainings and conduct home visits for parents to ensure engagement in program services.
- Coach youth to create educational and career goals as appropriate for their age and individualized needs.
- Maintain relationships and regular communication with key partners
- Prepare and submit program reports to funders in a timely manner.
- Keep supervisors informed of trends, issues, and developments in providing services.
- Coordinate services with other LFSRM staff and partner agencies to assure comprehensive services
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local contracts and requirements, including HIPAA.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Background or knowledge in education or youth programming.
- English language abilities and functional fluency in one or more foreign languages preferred.
- Cross cultural sensitivity and knowledge with the ability and desire to work with people of other cultures, some of whom will be limited English speakers.
- Expertise in building and maintaining relationships with a variety of community partners.
- Skilled at crisis management, problem-solving, decision-making, negotiation, collaboration, and mediation.
- Written communication skills, ability to write reports and to make presentations.
- Detail oriented, extensive documentation skills, organized and able to multi-task.
- Attention to punctuality for work, appointments and report dates. Ability to self-start and work well in a team setting as well as individually.
- Computer skills in Word, Excel, and the use of email and other applications.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide proof of auto liability insurance at the level of $100,000/300,000/100,000.
- Demonstration of commitment to the mission, values and vision of Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in education, human services or related field from a 4-year college or university; or 2-3 years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES.
Position may provide task supervision to interns and volunteers.
