Position Summary:
- The Assistant Vice President of Accounting oversees the accounting operations of the organization, including the production of financial reports and information. This individual establishes, implements, and monitors financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems. This individual also manages all accounting operations and members of the Accounting and Finance team.
Job Duties:
- Guide financial decisions by establishing, implementing, monitoring, and abiding by policies, procedures, and internal controls relating to accounting and business operations.
- Responsible for maintenance of all accounts and reconciliation of all financial records.
- Oversee processing of all payroll checks and reports per established procedures.
- Oversee assigned staff (recruit, train, plan, monitor, and appraise performance, coach, etc.).
- Responsible for day-to-day supervision of financial accounting, including preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements for the board, administration, programs, and external stakeholders for Lutheran Family Services (LFS), Lutheran Family Services Foundation (LFS Foundation), Omaha Church Center (OCC), etc.
- Oversee annual financial statement audits, compliance audits, and the 990 preparations.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local grants and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and review monthly journal entries.
- Ensure the accuracy and timely processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, monthly deposits, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain the chart of accounts.
- Review contracts as needed.
- Provide grant budgeting, financial reporting, and forecasting and monitoring of the financial requirements of grants and contracts.
- Collaborate with program staff, volunteers, external partners, and all other stakeholders.
- Develop skills through participation in internal and external training opportunities.
- Strive to make connections between the organization and the larger community whenever possible to contribute to ongoing fundraising and friend-raising efforts.
- Manage and assist with the preparation of the annual budget for the organization
- Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends for LFS, LFS Foundation, OCC, etc.
- Other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field required. CPA or MBA preferred.
- Five years of accounting managerial experience, preferably in a healthcare or nonprofit setting.
- Knowledge of Medicaid and Medicare accounting, billing, and reimbursement processes.
- Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, productivity, cost accounting, and financial analysis.
- Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and ability to drive for organization business.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Hybrid work environment (primarily in-office during busy times, with remote opportunities).
- Must be available during core work hours as directed by leadership and attend all necessary meetings as needed.
