Job Description

Job Title : Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) / Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Job Specialty : Long Term Care (LTC)

Job Duration : To be discussed during the interview

Shift : 6 : 00 PM - 6 : 00 AM

Guaranteed Hours : To be discussed during the interview

Experience : New Grads welcome, nursing home experience is a plus

License : Must possess a current license in PA or a temporary work permit at time of interview

Certifications : BLS (AHA) required

Must-Have :

  • Knowledge of medical asepsis, body mechanics, personal care of residents, correct use and care of equipment, observation techniques, reporting and recording
  • Thorough knowledge of nursing theory and its application
  • Ability to maintain a courteous and professional manner toward residents, visitors, and co-workers
  • Ability to meet the needs of the elderly
  • Awareness of cost containment, utilization of time, and proper care for equipment
  • Good communication and observation skills

Job Description :

  • Operate under the direction of the RN Supervisor to carry out medical plans and oversee Nursing Assistants' care of residents
  • Administer and record medication, treatments, and monitoring, such as glucose checks, as ordered
  • Accurately transcribe physician's orders and complete monthly summaries as scheduled
  • Review care plans with Nursing Assistants and update care plans as needed
  • Notify the RN Supervisor of significant changes in residents' conditions
  • Report and record changes in resident conditions
  • Communicate resident transfers to immediate family and department heads
  • Assist physicians with rounds, examinations, and treatments as needed
  • Collect laboratory specimens and arrange for delivery, document related activities
  • Supervise and assist with post-mortem procedures and notify department heads of a resident's death
  • Encourage resident participation in scheduled activities
  • Assist with annual evaluations of nursing assistants and write commendations and counseling records as needed
  • Complete incident reports and document weights and vital signs with follow-ups
  • Maintain work area cleanliness, safety, and conditions conducive to a healthy environment
  • Conduct team conferences and ensure staff familiarity with policy changes
  • Monitor NA documentation compliance and collect data for quality assurance studies
  • Provide direct care for residents as needed, within restrictions
  • Seek clarification or guidance to perform job responsibilities when in doubt
  • Document drug disposal on resident charts
  • Attend in-services, department, staff, and committee meetings as required
  • Assist CNAs on the hall as needed
  • Dress Code :

  • Uniforms : Any colored scrubs
  • Shoes : Clean and in good repair, no open-toe sandals
  • Hair : Clean
  • Sweaters : Cardigans, vests of any color
  • Jewelry : No large or dangling earrings or necklaces, no heavy perfumes
  • Name tags : Worn daily
  • No short or jogging pants
  • Physical Demands :

  • Good physical health and mental alertness for performing job functions
  • Ability to pass employment physicals as required
  • Knowledge of principles of good body mechanics
