Position Title: Med Tech/Resident Assistant
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
The Med Tech/Resident Assistant provides both medication administration and direct care services to residents, ensuring their comfort, privacy, and dignity. This role includes assisting residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and documenting care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Resident Care and ADLs (35%)
- Provide direct care according to individual resident care plans.
- Assist residents with personal hygiene, including bathing, grooming, dressing, oral care, and other ADLs, while promoting independence whenever possible.
- Take and record residents' temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, and blood pressure as per facility policy.
- Assist in resident mobility and transfers using proper techniques and equipment, such as gait belts, wheelchairs, and walkers.
- Provide exceptional customer service and high-quality care by showing compassion and empathy towards residents and their families.
- Assist with end-of-life care, post-mortem care, and resident transfers following discharge or death.
- Medication Administration (20%)
- Administer medications as directed and in accordance with prescribed schedules and protocols.
- Monitor and document residents' responses to medications, reporting any concerns to nursing staff.
- Follow proper protocols regarding handling medication, controlled substances, expiration dates, ordering and auditing.
- Environmental Care and Safety (10%)
- Ensure residents' rooms and common areas are clean, safe, and orderly, including wiping surfaces, straightening drawers, and organizing spaces.
- Perform laundry duties as needed, including washing residents' personal items and facility linens.
- Report environmental issues such as equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.
- Monitor for fire or safety hazards and maintain a safe and pleasant environment for residents and staff.
- Resident Monitoring and Documentation (10%)
- Observe and report changes in residents' physical and mental conditions to nursing staff promptly.
- Document care provided, including ADLs, food and fluid intake, vital signs, and any changes in resident status, ensuring accurate and timely record-keeping.
- Make rounds every two (2) hours and answer call lights promptly.
- Meal Assistance and Hydration (10%)
- Assist with serving and cleaning up meals, feeding residents as needed, and ensuring proper hydration by passing ice and water.
- Maintain regulatory compliance by checking food temperatures and ensuring proper labeling and storage in refrigerators.
- Compliance and Training (10%)
- Follow infection control guidelines to minimize the spread of illness and protect residents and staff.
- Adhere to all privacy regulations under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Attend all meetings and complete in-services and mandatory training.
- Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Experience in a skilled nursing or residential care facility preferred.
- Certification: Successfully complete community offered Medication Technician training. CPR certification.
- Skills: Proficient in medication administration procedures and documentation. Strong ability to assist with ADLs and provide compassionate, resident-centered care. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with residents, families, and staff.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and turn, move, and transport patients.
- Capacity to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and physical activities, such as bending, kneeling, and reaching.
- Work is performed in a healthcare setting with potential exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and chemicals.
- Must be able to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
