Summary:
The Director of Lifestyle Enrichment provides the coordination and oversight of activities that enrich the lives and the lifestyle of the residents; Provides supervision to Lifestyle Enrichment staff in the delivery of Lifestyle Enrichment functions that support the domains of wellness including social, intellectual, physical and spiritual for residents in assigned level of living.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Plans, organizes, and facilitates lifestyle enrichment functions for a level of living; Stays current on new and innovative ideas balancing the dimensions of wellness; Assesses the needs of the residents and evaluates participation levels in planning future activities and functions

2. Completes an evaluation of residents’ individual recreation and leisure preferences at the time of resident move in

3. Hires, trains, and supervises the Lifestyle Enrichment staff in the performance of their duties; Conducts annual performance appraisals; develops and coaches staff as needed

4. Collaborates with each level of community life to plan and coordinate the monthly Lifestyle Enrichment calendars; distributes calendars to residents and families

5. If working in Assisted Living, participates in service plans; If working in a Care Center/REACH, assists in care plans

6. Participates with community and Lifestyle Enrichment leadership in establishing the Lifestyle Enrichment and transportation budget; Monitors and tracks expenses on an on-going basis and balances expenses against budget

7. Schedules transportation for residents and ensures that company vehicles are properly maintained

8. May coordinate and oversee the community transportation program involving scheduling of bus resources, hiring and scheduling drivers, maintenance and licensing of vehicles, meeting DOT and other regulations

9. Develops and changes departmental policies and procedures as needed

10. Participates in the leadership team staff meetings and supports community-wide and/or departmental efforts

11. Participates in LSS-wide Lifestyle Enrichment meetings and training opportunities

12. May facilitate and assist the resident council or other resident forums for each level of living in the community

13. If working in a Care Center or Assisted Living, documents in residents’ charts pertinent information to conform to Clinical policy and state and federal regulations.

14. If properly licensed, may serve as a back-up for the community Chauffeurs and transport residents offsite in a vehicle they are licensed to drive (DOT certification and a Class C, A, or B driver’s license if transporting 16 or more passengers including the driver; Class D Illinois or Class E Missouri driver’s license if transporting 15 or few passengers including the driver)

15. May hold the responsibility of coordinating their Community’s volunteer program in conjunction with a designated member of the LSS Volunteer and Community Engagement team, which may include determining volunteer needs, onboarding and orientation, record-keeping, evaluation, and retention of the volunteers

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

2 years of prior experience in an activity/lifestyle enrichment role with demonstrated leadership skills

A degree in a related field (Therapeutic Recreation, Art or Music Therapy, Social Work) preferred

Must be CPR BLS (basic life support) certified with the American Red Cross

If working in Pennsylvania, ability and willingness to obtain Activity Director Certification within two (2) years. Process of obtaining certification must be presented to Human Resources within one (1) month of assuming role.

Demonstrates a high degree of creativity and resourcefulness

Recognizes the value of extra-ordinary customer service and values person-centered care

Strong organizational skills and the ability to lead a team

Strong verbal and written communication skills with employees, residents and families

Proficient computer skills

Active driver’s license preferred

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee is constantly required to use hands to finger, handle and feel and talk or hear.

The employee may help with moving residents in wheelchairs, setting up tables and chairs and other supplies and equipment used for activities.

Employee lifts up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis

Employee uses up to 56.6 pounds of force to push/pull residents in wheelchairs weighing up to 350 pounds; The force required to push/pull this same 350 pound resident increases to 94 pounds if the work environment contains unavoidable ramps

The work environment is well-lighted and ventilated and has its own temperature control system (air conditioning and heat). Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the Aids and Hepatitis B viruses. May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc. May work beyond normal working hours when necessary, including evenings and weekends.

LSS Pay & Benefits

Pay grade: C ($51,675.00/year to $82,500.00/year)
