Summary :
Responsible for performing indirect care for residents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs indirect care for residents as illustrated by performing the following job duties :
Assists with orienting residents and their families to Lutheran Senior Services (LSS) upon admission and to the department when transfers occur.
Observes safety rules to protect residents from injury, abuse, and promotes the highest level of quality care for each resident.
Communicates and interacts effectively with the residents.
Assists in maintaining a safe, neat and clean environment; cleans resident’s drawers, closets, storage areas, and utility rooms.
Delivers mail.
Answers residents’ call bells in a timely manner and conveys residents’ needs to a licensed nurse or a certified nursing assistant within the scope of their responsibilities.
Practices careful, efficient and non-wasteful use of supplies, linen and equipment.
Assists to transport residents via wheelchair to activities, therapy, etc., as required .
Makes unoccupied beds and distributes linens.
Handles soiled linen.
May be assigned to clean, disinfect and store bed pans, bedside commodes, urinals and other supplies.
Runs errands, directs visitors and answers telephone .
Assists in maintaining resident’s living area and personal clothing.
Assists in servicing and picking up resident meal trays; monitors residents during mealtime ; assists certified nursing assistants in passing snacks and nourishment as requested .
Passes ice and water to residents.
Stocks supplies.
Participates in resident activities.
2. Coordinates specific work tasks with other personnel within the department as well as with other units and departments in order to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information.
3. Reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor as requested , or according to an established schedule; compiles information as necessary or as directed and provides data to appropriate personnel .
4. Provides excellent customer service by interacting and responding to needs/requests/issues of employees, families, contractors, colleague agencies, volunteers, visitors and or the general public .
5. Maintains awareness of all services offered by LSS ; takes appropriate action to actively promote, support and communicate them to prospective clients, residents and families.
6. Participates in meetings and on task forces, committees, etc., as assigned.

A well-lighted and ventilated working area that has its own temperature control system (air conditioning and heat) . Is subject to emotionally upset residents, or family members . Is willing to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary . Is subject to exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals . Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B virus within guidelines of standard precautions . Appropriate ergonomic and personal safety equipment is provided as needed.
