REPORTS TO: Assistant Shelter Director – Vanguard House
LOCATION: Sanctuary Facility
CLASSIFICATION: Full Time
EXEMPT/NONEXEMPT: Exempt
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Social Services provides leadership, supervision, and training to on-site social service and operational staff. The Director of Social Services also serves as the liaison between the clients and the Assistant Shelter Director.
This is a 24-hour program. The Director of Social Services is classified as an essential worker, and as such accepts responsibility for the completion of their critical services to clients, on site, even during times of emergency. These include, but are not limited to, emergencies caused by weather, nationwide pandemics, civil unrest, and domestic threat.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

Provides leadership, guidance and administrative supervision to social service and operational staff.

Provides weekly one-on-one supervision for social services staff.

Conducts case conferences; resolves client issues.

Assists in reviewing service plans, program notes, and other client documentation to ensure comprehensiveness and compliance with funder, regulatory and LSSNY requirements. Assists in the approval on final documents prior to filing in client charts.

Audits client records to ensure compliance with funder, regulatory and LSSNY requirements.

Conducts regular staff meetings.

Provides training to social services and operational staff.

Provides ongoing feedback and annual job performance evaluations to case manager supervisors, shift leaders and other members of the social service team.

Assists in supervising incident reporting; strategizes follow-up with social services team.

Conducts client assessment and crisis intervention.
-
Supervises interns assisting with social services work.
-
Prepares monthly reports (including statistics and other data) for program funding sources.

Assists Shelter Director and Assistant Shelter Director with annual reports.

Approves timecards and changes in staff schedules, monitors attendance of social service and operational staff.

Works in conjunction with the Recreational Coordinators to create a monthly calendar of events and schedules group activities.

Assists Shelter Director and Assistant Shelter Director with Human Resource matters, including interviewing and hiring.

Works with Shelter Director and Assistant Shelter Director to coordinate the ordering of office supply orders; may handle petty cash custodial duties and other administrative tasks if needed.

Submits and provides required information and spreadsheets to funders (i.e. floor meetings, pregnancy indicators, roster management, BCS reporting, etc.).

Serves as on-site liaison for clients.

Develops and maintains relationships with community resources.

Assists with other duties assigned by the Assistant Shelter Director and other functions related to the program.

Fill in for missing and/or vacant staff in the performance of important duties towards clients.

On call 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

Adheres to confidentiality protocols outlined by the agency.

Qualifications
EDUCATION:
-
Master’s of Social Work (Licensed preferred)or
-
Bachelor’s degree with related experience.
EXPERIENCE:
-
Minimum of 2 years as a supervisor in the field of social services preferred.
-
Working experience with individuals and knowledge of issues related to immigration, asylum seekers, homelessness, HIV, substance abuse, mental illness, entitlements, and domestic violence.

Excellent administrative skills; highly organized and detail oriented.

Strong time management; able to handle multiple tasks and assignments at once.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).

Bilingual (Spanish) required.

Sensitive to intersectionality, different cultures, housing equality and a demonstrated ability to work within a social/racial justice framework.

Knowledge of CARES system a plus.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Crisis intervention skills.

Familiarity with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Salary : $90,000
