What are the responsibilities and job description for the Janitor position at Lutheran Social Services of WI & UP MI?
Lutheran Social Services of WI and Upper MI is currently seeking a part-time janitor, 6 hours per week, to provide janitorial support in an apartment complex. The role provides somewhat flexible hours to meet the needs of the building.
The Building Service Worker/Janitor performs direct services related to cleaning of buildings and office, performs upkeep of grounds, may perform light maintenance tasks, and performs other duties as assigned.
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary.
- Serves as a representative of the agency and the properties/programs to internal and external customers.
- Collects and disposes of waste materials; cleans surrounding areas.
- Vacuums floors using vacuum cleaner and broom.
- Sweeps and mops floors, stairs and entry ways.
- Performs housekeeping duties including but not limited to dusting, emptying wastebaskets, scouring sinks and toilets, washing windows, and cleaning blinds.
- Identifies safety concerns and notifies appropriate personnel in a timely fashion.
- May shovel snow as well as spread salt and sand.
- May provide direct services related to room setup/tear down; including moving tables, chairs and other furniture and equipment.
- May set up and utilize ladders and or scaffold to clean or repair areas inaccessible from the ground.
- May operate large janitorial equipment such as heavy scrubbing machines to strip and wax floors or clean carpets.
- May perform direct service related to upkeep of the grounds including cutting grass, trimming bushes, watering flowers, and raking leaves.
- May perform light maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, removing broken glass, cleaning carpets, and resetting circuit breakers.
- May perform security checks of the building and surrounding grounds ensuring exterior doors are closed and locked.
- Performs other duties as required/assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalency is preferred. Previous experience in related work is preferred.
TRAVEL: Position may travel daily between programs. May travel over the two state area on occasion for training and meetings and may include some overnights
