MISSION OF THE SUMMER KITCHEN COORDINATOR
The Summer Kitchen Assistant provides hot, delicious, safe meals in a hospitable manner.
REPORTS TO: Executive Director, with day-to-day management by the Kitchen Coordinator
EMPLOYMENT DATES:
June 8, 2024 through August 9, 2024 (with potential for intermittent fall weekend retreat work).
HOURS AND COMPENSATION:
This position is a 40 hour/week seasonal position. Specific work shift to be negotiated.
Pay Rate: $18-$20 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Passion for the way meals can create radical hospitality to guests and campers.
· Possesses valid Washington Food Handler’s Card.
· Minimum two years of kitchen experience preferred.
· Must be able to work around children and pass a background check.
· Ability to work in a busy kitchen environment, including lifting heavy objects, moving, twisting, stretching, and bending.
· Ability to work under supervision.
· Ability to work as part of a team.
· Ability to communicate effectively.
· Ability to follow both written and verbal instruction.
· Ability to work under pressure.
· Ability to support and uplift a weekly kitchen team with variable kitchen experience.
· A sense of humor and ability to uplift others in a stressful environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Maintain Health and Food Safety standards in accordance with Whatcom County Health Department standards.
· Prepares meals for specific service times in a family-style service under the direction of the Kitchen Coordinator.
· Lead meal preparation and service when the Kitchen Coordinator is absent.
· Execute weekly meal rotation, with adaptation for dietary needs each week.
· Maintain kitchen and dining hall cleanliness standards.
· Create a positive atmosphere that encourages the development of staff.
· Create a hospitable dining environment.
· Other duties as assigned.
AT-WILL DECLARATION:
The Kitchen Assistant is an "at-will" FLSA employee. As an at-will position, either party may terminate the relationship with or without cause, and with or without notice. When practical, Lutherwood will give thirty (30) days written notice of its intent to terminate.
