Director of Rehabilitation (DOR)
The Director of Rehabilitation (DOR) is responsible for overseeing the operations of the rehabilitation department in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). This role ensures the delivery of high-quality therapy services, manages the rehabilitation team, and aligns department goals with the facility's overall mission. The DOR collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to optimize resident outcomes, drive compliance, and maintain fiscal responsibility.
Director of Rehabilitation (DOR) Key Responsibilities:
Department Leadership:
- Supervise, mentor, and provide leadership to the rehabilitation team, including Physical Therapists (PTs), Occupational Therapists (OTs), Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), Therapy Assistants, and support staff.
- Monitor staffing levels and ensure appropriate coverage for residents’ needs.
Clinical Operations:
- Oversee the development and implementation of individualized care plans based on resident needs and goals.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews and ensure therapy services meet clinical standards and regulatory compliance.
- Act as a clinical resource to therapy staff, ensuring best practices and evidence-based care.
Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of therapy services in compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer guidelines.
- Conduct Utilization Review (UR) meetings and monitor the effectiveness of treatment plans.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, social workers, and other departments to provide holistic, resident-centered care.
- Participate in care plan meetings and discharge planning to ensure smooth transitions.
Financial Management:
- Monitor departmental budgets, control expenses, and ensure cost-effective use of resources.
- Optimize therapy services to maintain profitability while delivering exceptional care.
Program Development:
- Identify opportunities for growth, such as new programs or services to enhance resident outcomes.
- Stay current with industry trends and integrate innovative therapies and techniques.
Director of Rehabilitation Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited program in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech-Language Pathology.
- Active and unencumbered state license in one of the therapy disciplines (PT, OT, SLP).
Director of Rehabilitation Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility or similar setting.
- At least 1-2 years of management or supervisory experience in a rehab or therapy department.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in therapy-related documentation systems (e.g., PointClickCare, Casamba).
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations, including Medicare and Medicaid guidelines.
