Position Overview:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Firearms Appraiser to assess, evaluate, and document the value of firearms collections. This role involves conducting in-depth research, market analysis, and condition grading of various firearms, from antique collectibles to modern high-end weaponry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough appraisals of firearms, including historical, modern, and collectible guns.
- Provide detailed valuation reports based on current market trends, auction data, and historical sales.
- Assess firearm condition, originality, modifications, and provenance.
- Work with estate attorneys, collectors, and private sellers to provide professional evaluations.
- Collaborate with auction houses and dealers for comparative pricing.
- Ensure compliance with ATF and state firearm regulations during appraisals.
- Maintain an updated database of firearms market values and industry trends.
- Assist in firearms acquisitions, helping determine pricing strategies for purchases and sales.
Required Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of firearms, including historical and modern models.
- Prior experience in firearm appraisals, auctions, or related valuation work.
- Membership or certification from recognized appraisal organizations (ISA, ASA, AAA, or equivalent preferred).
- FFL (Federal Firearms License) holder or deep understanding of firearms laws.
- Experience working with estate attorneys, collectors, or auction houses is a plus.
- Strong research, writing, and documentation skills.
- Ability to travel as needed for in-person appraisals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in gunsmithing, forensic firearms analysis, or military/law enforcement firearms expertise.
- Experience working with high-value collections and investment-grade firearms.
- Connections within the firearms industry, including collectors, dealers, and auction houses.
