This is highly responsible and technical work coordinating functions related to criminal history maintenance, pending criminal actions, and all operations of inmate records by maintaining a computerized and hard-copy management information system.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Maintain inmate records for the county’s correctional facility; maintain computerized and hard-copy inmate records and files. Maintain a certification as a Certified Terminal Operator for the Luzerne County Correctional Facility. Ensures the proper function and dissemination of Criminal History Information provided through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws/regulations; maintains an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate. Interpret court commitments and court orders in accordance with state statutes and requests of the sentencing judge Interact via telephone with the public, courts, law enforcement in a professional and courteous manner Coordinates all inmate legal proceedings and transfers to/from other jurisdictions with local, county, state, and federal authorities Interact with Court of Common Pleas Judges and District Justice Offices to ensure the appropriate handling of commitment and release paperwork, Compute all sentences ensuring they are accurately entered into the “Offender Management System” calculating credits toward a sentence and establishing minimum and maximum release dates for county and state parole agencies Ensure that detainers, other sentences, bail, release dates, and other pertinent data are properly entered or satisfied in inmate records as required, to discharge inmates on appropriate dates and if applicable, to appropriate agencies Ensure that only authorized persons have access to inmate records and the CLEAN terminal Ensure that confidential information is not released to the public or media Resolve all matters of custody, length of sentence, holding charges, detainers, extraditions or transfers to other institutions Prepare transfer papers for inmates discharged or transferred to other jurisdictions Coordinate the collection of DNA samples of convicted felons, ensuring the collection procedure is followed and submitted in a timely and efficient manner and all current legislation is enforced Complete sex offenders registration when applicable, ensuring all current legislation is enforced Maintain accurate statistics of daily commitments, releases, transfers and inmate statuses Coordinate with security, treatment and support supervisors to ensure that all pertinent inmate information is available to each department Maintain constant and accurate total inmate counts coinciding with new inmates and discharges of all confined inmates as well as inmates on the out-count Serve as facility liaison with local, state and federal court agencies Schedule permanent discharges or ensuring that only authorized persons have access to do so Report to the District Attorney and sentencing Judge any person who fails to report for their sentence Prepares interstate agreement on detainers’ paperwork
